Meet David Nadelberg of Mortified

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Nadelberg.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Mortified began 16 years ago in LA when I discovered a love letter that I wrote in high school but was too afraid to give. Decades later, I found it and rented a theater on Melrose and Mortified was born. We now do shows in 20 cities worldwide in five languages, plus books, TV, film, and podcasting.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been countless moments in the past 16 years where it would have been easy to quit. The hardest roads were when whenever we tried to go a traditional route and work within the Hollywood system. But the best successes were always when we did things independently.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mortified – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Mortified is a multi-platform storytelling project where adults share their teenage diaries, letters, lyrics, home movies and more… in front of total strangers. It exists as a stage show, podcast, book series, and various TV/film projects. We are most proud of having built a successful organization that defies traditional categorization. Mortified is a unique project and very often, projects that don’t fit neatly into pre-existing genres struggle to gain traction. We are fortunate that our community only grows bigger and bigger.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA is great because it’s full of dreamers and people with ambitions that are not always in one’s comfort zone. I love challenging comfort. LA is also a tough city because that also creates a lot of highs and lows.
