Meet David Moon

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Moon.

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my martial arts career ever since I could walk. My parents got me into martial arts, as they ran a martial arts school for their career. As a result, I was always training alongside the other students that my parents taught. Since they were there teaching everyday, I was also training everyday. I would normally be in class for 3-5 hours per day to train. It was a norm to train after school and after golf practice (I competed in golf growing up). After nearly 20 years of that routine, I was given the baton to run the school, as my parents were getting older, etc. In the beginning of 2019, I was given the role as the operator and head instructor of the school. As a young business operator, the burden of having my family’s finance dependent on me was initially daunting. As a young instructor, the burden of teaching people of all ages, levels, and walks of life was initially overwhelming. I believe that initial self-doubt made me train harder and work harder in my newfound role to become the leader that the academy needed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road overall. The years of training I had prior to running the school made me ready to take on the challenge. Though there was adversity, such as the pandemic from COVID-19, my team and I had the tenacity and ability to overcome it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We have been around since 1968, and we’re one of the pioneers of martial arts academies in America. I am a 6th Degree Black Belt in Moorimdo under Great Grandmaster Yong Moon, an MMA Coach, a Black Belt in Taekwondo, and a lifelong practitioner of martial arts in general. I am proud of being the operator of an academy with many great feats beyond martial arts that helped transform the lives of all types of people. We helped cancer patients live a longer life, misbehaved children enter prestigious universities, lost adults find professional careers, etc. Through the medium of martial arts, we have led people to become the best version of themselves.
