Today we’d like to introduce you to David Mescon.
Body Rhythms was founded in 2009 in Kona, HI, by Angela and David Mescon. Angela’s passion and her avocation since the 1980s has been bodywork and massage. Having accumulated over 16,000 hours of education in the bodywork and massage fields through the years, Angela is recognized by many as one of the world’s foremost bodyworkers. She combined her passion for the two and opened the first Body Rhythms Spa in Hawaii, in 2009. She combines a wide variety of skills in a unique way, that few practicing therapists are able to offer. Angela’s passion for the overall health and wellness of others is the driving force behind what is now known as the Body Rhythms Method. David’s background is in business, and opening the first Body Rhythms Spa was the natural “next step” in life for this husband and wife duo. The original Body Rhythms moved to its current location in 2011, and within less than one year became Hawaii’s most and best reviewed spa. Missing spending more time with their families David and Angela decided to move to California in 2014, and opened Body Rhythms Irvine in 2015. Once again, in less than one year, Body Rhythms Irvine grew to become the best reviewed spa in Orange County. Being of service to others and helping people live healthier and happier lives is our passion, and, is the driving force behind the Body Rhythms Spa. We do not operate the spa out of necessity, but out of choice. We love what we do!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Approximately five months after opening our Irvine location, the spa was completely destroyed by flooding. The complete ground up rebuild of the spa required nearly six months to complete and due to the “newness” of the spa, the vast majority of the costs were borne out of pocket. Basically, we opened two times in our first year. Our new location has been running continuously since November, 2015, and continues to grow and serve the needs of both locals and visitors.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Body Rhythms Spa – what should we know?
The most succinct word to describe our business is simply ETHICAL. Although we run the business to make money, that is actually only a secondary motivator. Our primary concern is the well being of our clients. The driving force behind the vast majority of spas, just like most businesses is profit. Ours is not. It is our deeply held belief that we can be of service to others AND make money too.
Body Rhythms offers massage, body treatments, including a variety of wraps and scrubs, mini-facials and hot oil scalp and face treatments. Because cleanliness is very important to us our facility is impeccably clean at all times. We also offer discount packages that include massage and one or more other treatments. These packages range from ninety minutes to three and a half hours. We are best known for our massages. All of our massages are integrative massages. Each Body Rhythms massage utilizes a variety of massage modalities throughout the treatment. Each treatment is completely customized for each client each and every time they come in. Our treatments are based upon the specific goals of each client. Whether our clients are primarily looking for relaxation massage, or are dealing with one or more specific problems, we are here to help. Every Body Rhythms Massage is a spa massage. Our spa massages include a hot oil foot treatment, aromatherapy, the use of many hot towels, (typically fifteen to twenty per treatment), and a hot stone back finale, (wherein our therapists massage the clients’ backs with hot stones for about the last five minutes of massaging that part of their body). All of these extras are included at no additional cost. Most other spas that even offer these services charge about fifty to sixty dollars extra for all of them – we do not.
Value is as important to us as it is to you. For that reason, all Body Rhythms treatment times are ACTUAL treatment times. At Body Rhythms, a sixty minute massage means you will be on the table, being massaged, for at least sixty minutes. We do not charge our clients for the time it takes them to fill out intake forms, get undressed, or re-dressed. Again, we run our business this way because it is the most ethical, even if it is not the most profitable.

The consistently stellar quality of our treatments and our unparalleled value are what set us apart from others. Our clients can expect nothing less than stellar treatments, each and every visit, and with each and every one of our therapists. There is never any hit-or-miss with our treatments. Although our prices are a bit higher than average, we are by far the best value. We don’t nickel and dime our clients. Everything is included at no extra charge. There are no extras of upgrades to buy because they are all already included in our prices. We do not upsell EVER. There are no sales pitches because we never try to sell you anything – especially after one of our great treatments, when you are at your most vulnerable, because we consider this behavior to be unethical. We do not offer memberships because we consider those to be unethical as well. With membership spas, you have to pay more for your membership than the one included free monthly treatment. If you do not purchase additional treatments that month you are just giving the business money for nothing.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Above all we are honorable and ethical. We are kind of old fashioned too, and we still believe in working hard to earn our clients’ trust, respect and loyalty.
Pricing:
- Our massage rates are $100 for 60 minutes; $140 for 90 minutes; $170 for 120 minutes. Couples are double these prices.
- Body wraps and body scrubs start at $170, and range in length from ninety minutes to over two hours. All body treatments also include massage.
- Our Discount Packages start at $135 (our 90 minute Signature Massage which includes massage and a mini-facial, up to our three and a half hour Lighthouse treatment for $320.
- We also offer both electronic and physical gift cards for any treatment or any dollar amount you would like.
