Meet David Meister

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Meister.

David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hard work and sweat! After college, I moved to NYC and started working as an assistant designer for a company that made polyester blouses that were quite ugly…. but hey you have to start somewhere. After 9 years in NYC, I was moved to LA to start and develop the evening line for Laundry by Shelli Segal. The business grew tremendously.

Five and a half years later I joined forces to start my own signature label with Kellwood. We were a team for 15 years. I now am involved with licensing deals.

My mottos are: Never take no for an answer, be persistent and believe in yourself.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Fashion and smooth road are two concepts that have nothing to do with each other.

Fashion is moving so fast today. There are always problems with fabric deliveries, quality issues and the list goes on. You must have your eyes on everything. I often say the design is just very creative problem-solving.

David Meister – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is a brand that is distributed worldwide. I am most proud that I am still standing and my brand is 20 years old. I am hard to impress …..but it takes a lot to survive in the fashion world with a successful business.

Getting in touch: VoyageLA is built on recommendations from the community; it’s how we uncover hidden gems, so if you know someone who deserves recognition please let us know here.
