Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I grew up with a single mom who had me at the age of 16. Her and my dad divorced when I was two so the home was broken pretty early on. We always struggled to make ends meet and there were a lot to weekend visits to each parent’s house including grandmas. We lived in government housing for a majority of my childhood but my mom always did the best she could. She raised me to be exactly who I wanted to be and always showed love and support for my career and dreams.
I was always bullied a lot in elementary school because I was different from everyone else. My brother was the sports player and I just wanted to sing! Back then, that was considered weird for a young boy. It wasn’t what I was “supposed” to do. I joined band and played the trumpet and flute to let you my musical hunger.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer/songwriter that made it into the Top 12 of American Idol which completely changed my life for the better. I learned how to run my company and brand at an early age and have been going strong ever since. I have toured the world and sang alongside some of the favorite singers and people I idolize. I think I am most proud of my longevity and ability to stay relevant. It is so easy to give up in the city and industry but I have kept a positive attitude and stayed resilient. I think may tenacity sets me apart from other people that may have moved here thinking a big break was going to just happen. I work extremely hard for what I have accomplished.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents deserve the most credit for always supporting me no matter what. They instilled a very strong work ethic in me that has never left me through all of the years. I also had a mentor on the show, Michael Orland, that gave me a crash course in surviving after American Idol and he also got me my first national tour. I also owe a lot to my friends along the way who always show up to my shows whether there’s ten people or 1k in the audience. Last but not least, I have to thank my ride or die fans for promoting me and always supporting no matter what!
