Today we’d like to introduce you to David Emenheiser.
Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My love for photography started in my teens with a Black and white film class in high school in the 90’s; fast forward to 2014, while overcoming a 20-year-long drug addiction, Photography found me once again. I truly believe God gave me this gift at a time in my life where I was searching for my purpose in this world. I struggled for 20 years with various addictions meth, heroin, pills and alcohol. Photography is truly a therapy for me, it allows me to express myself creatively while releasing the stresses of this world. God had a purpose for me before I had a plan. And that purpose was to tell my story through my lens. My journey in photography truly started in 2018 after a year of shooting with just my camera phone. My wife encouraged me to get a camera because she saw something that I hadn’t yet. Shortly after getting my camera, I began to shoot every day almost every day, and I began growing in my craft, and in late 2018, David Joseph Photo was born. I shoot such a wide variety of genres of photography it has allowed my business to grow very quickly. I shoot everything from events to landscapes to portraits and aviation. I could go on and on about how much photography means to me, but for now, I appreciate you viewing life through my lens.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
God truly has opened so many doors for me that it really has been smooth sailing. I’m the photographer at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, as well as working with the City of Palmdale and the City of Lancaster, which have also opened doors for me
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am mostly known for my landscape and night photography, and honestly, that’s what I truly love to shoot for. As far as client work, I absolutely love concert photography and live music. A few years ago, I was hired to shoot a Christian Music festival in Palmdale called Gracefest, and I’ve shot it every year since. It’s the one event I look forward to every year; there is just something about mixing my Faith with photography that brings me so much joy 🙏
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, Jesus gets all the credit and glory. Without Him, I wouldn’t be here today. He truly saved me from myself and gave me this purpose in life. My wife Darlene has also been my biggest supporter and my biggest fan, without her love and support I wouldn’t be where I am today. As far as photographers who inspire me, my friend Chris Balladarez is truly an amazing human and photographer, we met though photography but bonded with recovery. He continues to inspire me as I watch him become this amazing filmmaker and storyteller.
