Today we’d like to introduce you to David Bren and Taliea Mueller.
David, Taliea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Curation for our members to Thrive and build Relationships. We deliver dynamic Leadership to propel our members forward. C – Curation T- Thrive R- Relationships L – Leadership We at CTRL Collective were born outliers – we are the creators, innovators, artists, inventors that push the boundaries of what limitless potential is within each and every one of us. Our CEO/Founder David Bren was looking for such as space and after countless co-working spaces were tried out to satiate his appetite for growing his company, he fell upon a discovery. What he was looking for did not exist…. yet. CTRL Collective began surveying millennials to navigate what they really needed in this thriving entrepreneurial world. What he discovered was what every company today is trying to do. Millennial’s NEED an experiential life, period. They look for people, places, and experiences that relate to them. What we have accomplished in 2 1/2 years to this date is two thriving locations in Playa Vista and DTLA. Pasadena officially opening in late November 2017 and growing to five locations by February 2018. We have incredible staff that passionate individuals about our members. Taliea Mueller joined CTRL Collective with the purpose of helping people achieve the best possible version of themselves. Each CTRL Collective location reflects the local community within the interior design elements along with the offered amenities. We believe that creating individualized design allows for our members to feel like they are in their second home.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anyone that says starting a business is easy, is special. With all of the struggles we have had they have been INCREDIBLE learning lessons. It has helped us build a very strong foundation for us to push forward. We also have believed in our morals and principles that our brand represents. What we have seen is that companies stray from those pillars to appease people/customers. Refine what works over time but don’t reinvent the wheel
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CTRL Collective – what should we know?
Ctrl Collective is the intersection of innovators, iconoclasts and disruptors. Our environments and resources fuel collaboration and shape the future. Taliea Mueller is the COO/Co-Founder of CTRL Collective. She specializes in making the company operate and run efficiently. However, with that being said our incredible staff is responsible for consistently executing excellence every day at our locations. What she is most proud of is what amazing individuals that work with us. David and Taleia were always worried if we would find people as passionate about our mission? We sure did, through COUNTLESS interviews and ensuring we hire people who are driven, kind, and in love with what CTRL Collective does. Our people set us apart hands down. We’ve all heard the saying you can have an incredible product with terrible marketing and a not so great product being marketed really well that is the next fad. We focus on people, one of our company mantras is “Build relationships first, business is second.” Our Executive Leadership team members are promoted from within our locations and we’ve really have had the honor of working with such phenomenal people to continue to grow with us as we expand and to teach future team members about our company’s heritage.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Co-working spaces are commonplace now, but we strive to set us apart by curating the perfect membership. Instead of accepting anyone who wants to purchase a membership, we interview prospective members as much as they interview us. We work on the 80/20 rule which suggests that members work 80% of their time on their own projects and 20% of their time assisting other members or working with/for charity.
