Meet Darmirra Brunson of The Darmirra Show in West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darmirra Brunson.

Darmirra is an up and coming comedic genius. Her style of comedy is witty, outrageous and will leave you wanting more! Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland this young starlet is ready to win the hearts of millions. Darmirra moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 10. When she was 14, she made her first movie appearance along side her father, comedian Darryl Brunson, in the independent film “Chatroom“. She attended Birmingham High School where she honed in on her comedic timing while performing in various plays and state competitions. At this early age, Darmirra attracted the attention of Director and Producer Garry Marshall. She later landed a role in the hit series “Girlfriends” when she was discovered by casting director Robi Reed.

Although Darmirra has performed stand up in such clubs as The Comedy Store, The Improv and The Laugh Factory, her true passion lies within Sketch Comedy. This passion earned her a spot in the Showtime Comedy Special “Chocolate Sundaes” hosted by Tommy Davidson. Darmirra is a YouTube sensation bringing you the hottest celebrity impersonations and original characters. She is the writer and editor of “The Darmirra Show”. Her show has over 70,000 subscribers and 9,000,000 million views! Darmirra Brunson is known for doing parodies of entertainers such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Whitney Houston and Wendy Williams just to name a few. Her original and unique web series “Gretchen Murdle Goes To Hollywood” and “All About Aquafina” are quickly captivating adults and teens everywhere.

It’s only a matter of time before her characters Gretchen Murdle and Aquafina become household names. Darmirra’s enthusiasm for her craft also attracted comedian and actor Jay Pharoah. She was then featured in a showcase to become a cast member of Saturday Night Live. Director and writer, Tyler Perry recently discovered Darmirra’s work while conducting anationwidee talent search/contest. Over 16,000 submissions were made but Darmirra Brunson was chosen as the winner! Darmirra landed the lead role of “Drew” on Tyler Perry’s hilarious television series “Love Thy Neighbor” which aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Her character “Drew” was undoubtedly one that shined and kept the audience extremely entertained for five seasons. You can catch Darmirra in her newest film “Two Seconds of Fame” this fall! Keep your eyes and ears open for this gifted star in the making!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth ride? What’s that? As long as you are invested in this particular industry you may always experience ups and downs. That in itself can be exhausting yet extremely exhilarating and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I remember when I first began releasing sketches on YouTube. I was so excited! Once I accumulated 1,000 subscribers I was beyond thrilled and very proud! However, my account was hacked into and deleted. In an instant all of my hard work was obsolete. I gathered the strength and courage to release new projects. The moment I created my new channel my first project went viral! In just a week, I had accumulated over 20,000 subscribers! That incident taught me so much! NEVER GIVE UP! Work hard, press forward and stay in faith! Thats what I have learned over the years! Time and time again, this fact always presents itself to be true.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Darmirra Show – what should we know?
I have a show on YouTube currently, which is called: “The Darmirra Show”! It’s a sketch comedy show in which I am able to showcase several celebrity impersonations and original characters. I am proud of my relentlessness. I simply don’t know how to give up on what I love or whatever I’m truly passionate about! Honestly, I never knew, I was capable of impersonating people until I had an audition for the “In Living Color” reboot. One of the requests for the audition was that you present at least three celebrity impersonations! Its amazing how at certain divine moments in life you will be exposed to what your true talents are!

My impersonations and character building has led me to some very awesome opportunities! A comedy special on Showtime, a series regular role on a Tyler Perry sitcom which aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network and an absolutely amazing Youtube channel with great content!

I am a beautiful, young, black woman who is obsessed with the art of Sketch Comedy! Unfortunately, Sketch Comedy is a dying art. This generation doesn’t have much of an attention span and everything moves quite quickly. I am proud of myself and my artistry because I refuse to conform. I believe in taking your time with your product. I believe in giving the world and my fans what they deserve from me. All of me. That is most assuredly what separates myself from the rest!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Tyler Perry played an extreme role in my success. He had a nation wide competition with over 16,000 participants. This competition provided an opportunity for people all over our country to showcase what they do best! I am honored to say that I won that competition. The winner was guaranteed a “walk on role” in one of his productions. Upon meeting me and exploring my talents, Tyler decided to give me so much more! I honestly have to thank my fans for making me aware of the contest. Tyler has been a huge mentor and inspiration for me, my life and my career. I am beyond thankful. I also have the best parents and friends in the world, whom have all given me their full support over the years. This industry can be very tough and there is nothing like having genuine support throughout the process. That’s exactly what all of this is, a process.

In addition to all of that, I must say that the more than deserved credit of my success, my overall existence, would be God. Everyone has something or someone that they look to for strength. I have God and it works! I am beyond appreciative of this relationship. I am motivated, I am confident, I am eager and that is all because of God and the gift that was placed in me!
