Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Lopez.
Danny, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m just a funny Mexican kid from LA talking about his life and trying to make it be totally honest. Never really had me doing this as a plan. I uploaded my first video a year ago, like a month or two after high school and a month after my homies passed away and I’ve only been going up since. I’m just trying to keep doing this because it doesn’t seem like a job, so hopefully, I can make it into one and I’ll be like I’m not working, but living.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve had times where I just didn’t want to do it anymore or I just didn’t care about it. Whenever that would happen or I would feel like that, something made me keep going and I don’t know what it is, so why not. Nothing ever going to be smooth, I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a HOOD COMEDIAN, I basically just record myself talking shit. I’m known for making fun of my life, the things I’ve seen, the things I’ve been through in my life. I’m most proud that I’m just doing it, I enjoy making these videos and making other people’s days, I’ve got DM’s where people tell me that I’ve helped them with anxiety, depression, what they’re going through. I sit there and read it like confused, I’m only a 19-year kid from the gutter, making people’s day or feel better. It’s crazy. What makes me different is that I’m ME, everything that I do and do is me, that’s who I am.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is known for the power it has to open the doors for so many careers and opportunities. I wanna do comedy and acting, but to totally honest I don’t think the industry is ready for a Mexican kid from the ugly side of LA to actually make it, so I have to knock the doors down. If you have the talent or strive you can start anywhere, just be you.
