Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Abeckaser.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Danny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in the nightlife world in NYC in the 90s. In 2005, I decided to make my first movie. It took four years to put together the movie, it was called Holy Rollers. I used my know-how from nightlife and relationships to get the movie made and produced. We were accepted into Sundance and debuted the film there. The rest is history. Now it’s 2019 and I am about to direct my third feature and have a small role in the upcoming Scorsese film The Irishman. I have acted, directed and produced films since 2005, and have worked hard to get here.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth, no, but for the most part I’ve done what I’ve set out to do. If you are committed to a result, you can achieve it. Roadblocks come up, but you find a way to work around them and move on.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I own a film production and distribution company called 2B Films. We produce Independent films. We are different because I’m making movies that studios would never make. Documentaries, features, all of it. We are known for making a small budget look very big. We work with some of the best people in the business, and use our know-how, passion and experience to create projects people want to see.
What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I always wanted to be an actor. So nothing much has changed. I did not expect to get into directing, but I developed an urge to tell stories how I wanted to tell them, so it was the only way. This started with my vision for ‘First We Take Brooklyn’ and then the upcoming December release for ‘Mob Town’ and my next project ‘Blackjack: The Jackie Ryan Story’ which we just started pre-production on.
