Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Decker
Danielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Collective Shop is a family-owned Furniture, Garden & Decor shop. I am an interior designer and it’s a curated blend of vintage and new items all hand-picked by me. My husband Carlos and I moved to the Valley (Woodland Hills) after having our second child. I fell in love with the area but missed all of my favorite retail spots in the city. I wanted to create a space in my new Hood where I could meet my neighbors and curate an environment for shoppers to experience how to mix New/Vintage furniture and Decor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening a Brick & Mortar was one of the craziest ideas. It’s full of ups and downs, the TO-DO list is endless and we wear many hats from social media/marketing, managing inventory, sourcing products, scheduling deliveries and catering to designers. When you are running your own business it really is non-stop 24/7 operation. But it’s a fun and rewarding one.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an Interior Designer and shop curator. I’m obsessed with design, from working with clients on full house remodels, furnitures selection, to the simple task of staging a bookcase. I Love it ALL. I specialize in creating functional spaces layered with modern & vintage. I enjoy working with clients to create their home story. I take my time finding personalized pieces that speak to their culture, hobbies and lifestyle.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Everyone assumes my house is a work of art, but in reality, it’s a mess! Between 2 shops and design clients my house looks more like a shipping and receiving warehouse. She cleans up nicely when we have guests though, but it takes an afternoon of re-staging!
