Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Burgio.
Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
One thing I’ve learned on this beautiful wave called “life”, is to expect the unexpected. And starting a jewelry line was certainly unexpected!
My entire career has been a series of adventures and surprises. I went from being an actress, to a Broadway dancer and after moving to LA found myself among the badass stunt community where I learned some of my greatest life lessons about facing fear (and the thrill of adrenaline).
Anyone in the biz can tell you that faith and surrender are going to be your best friends if you don’t want to lose your mind to a world of minimal stability. I found that solace on my spiritual path.
I have always been drawn to crystals. they have been shiny little treasures that help open, uplift or ground me. As I explored them I realized the importance of the quality and energy of the stones and began making jewelry, just to adorn myself with extra tools to help me though my day. When I began wearing them, people approached, asking “where did you get that?” and when I replied that I made it, the response was the same “you should open a store”. The message was loud and clear… and SoulShineLA was born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have found that when I can follow inspiration without expectations, there are less disappointments and obstacles. Not always an easy thing to do but in this case I really felt an easy flow in the way that one thing led to the next and before I knew it, I had a business. The thing that trips me up the most is that I’m not a visual person, I don’t see things in my mind….I feel them. That sometimes poses a challenge for me when designing. I will often build, tear apart and rebuild several times before it feels right to me. But I am learning to enjoy the process.
It also can be difficult to operate a business when there’s no one to clock in with and your schedule is as busy and unpredictable as mine. It’s taken a lot of discipline and perseverance but the end result is deep fulfillment.
Please tell us about SoulShineLA.
SoulShineLA is healing jewelry made with top quality, high vibrational gemstones. I source my material from reputable suppliers and most of the stones are Grade A or higher. The crystals are first cleared with Sage and charged on Selenite. I meditate daily prior to sitting down at my work table and then infuse the jewels with prayer as I create.
I have found that many of the gemstone jewelry pieces out there are made with junk stones that have been dyed or are just low quality. It’s very important to me to offer the best and most beautiful stones I can find.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I absolutely love this question! It’s a wonderful way to connect to the inner child we all have inside. I grew up in Astoria, NY in a small brownstone that we shared with my grandmother. I shared a connection with her like no other I have ever known. Many of my best memories are just talking with her. Every Christmas she would hand make matching dresses for my sister and I. I can remember her trying them on us and making them just right. I was especially fond of the pink velvets ones.
We would all go to my Godmother’s house on Christmas and wait for Santa (Uncle Marty) to come down the stairs with his big red sack. It was a room full of love and laughter and lots and lots of family…all the ingredients for pure Joy!
