Meet Daniel of Bubbles LaundryRoom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For over 30 years, I built a career in retail, starting out while in college as a supervisor and eventually becoming a Divisional Vice President, leading more than 7,000 employees across California. I loved many aspects of the job — mentoring people, problem-solving, and building teams — but I grew increasingly frustrated with a corporate culture that prioritized profits over people. Slogans promised care for employees and customers, but actions often told a different story.

In 2022, a leadership change brought a president whose style was harsh and demeaning. During a Zoom call, he demanded that all Vice Presidents lead like him, publicly degrading anyone who disagreed. That moment was a turning point for me. I knew I could not lead my team that way. It was time to follow my own path.

Six months later, in May 2022, I opened Bubbles LaundryRoom. Starting as a one-person operation, I remodeled the entire store, installed brand-new equipment, and poured my energy into creating a laundromat that reflected my values: clean, modern, welcoming, and staffed by people who genuinely care. By the end of the first year, I had hired three employees, and today, our team has grown to eight dedicated members.

Bubbles LaundryRoom isn’t just about laundry — it’s about creating a space where both employees and customers feel respected, valued, and at home. Every time someone walks through our doors, I want them to feel the difference a business can make when people come first. Our customers have responded with incredible support, rating us 4.8 on both Google and Yelp and leaving over 300 five-star reviews.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting Bubbles LaundryRoom has been an incredible journey, but it hasn’t come without its challenges. Coming from a corporate career where resources were abundant and specialized teams handled nearly every function, I quickly learned that running a small business means wearing all the hats. From accounting and marketing to payroll, human resources, facilities management, and training, I’ve learned to juggle multiple roles at once — sometimes all in the same day.

Operating a laundromat also brought a steep learning curve. Dealing with blocked drains, burst pipes, and equipment repairs was completely new to me, and I had to figure out solutions quickly while keeping the business running smoothly for our customers.

Building a team aligned with my values and goals was another challenge. While today I am proud to have a strong, dedicated team of eight employees who share my commitment to excellent service and a welcoming environment, it took time, effort, and patience to find the right people and train them to thrive in our culture.

These challenges have made Bubbles LaundryRoom stronger, and every problem solved has been a lesson in resilience, creativity, and leadership. The experience has reinforced my belief that with dedication, respect, and persistence, it’s possible to build a business that works for both employees and customers.
