Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Marcha.
Daniel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Santa Barbara, but raised in Bakersfield, CA. Born to working parents Ray and Janis Marcha and an only child, my passion for movies started at a very young age of around 2 years old when my parents say that I was glued to Stephen Spielberg’s E.T. I always spent summers in the theater, soaking in the silver screen, I couldn’t get enough. From as far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a filmmaker, and tell stories with a camera.
My work behind the camera really started in college where I attended California State University Northridge, where I studied Film & TV Production with an emphasis in editing. I loved my time there, actually getting to work with the lost art of shooting and editing actual film. I graduated and received my B.A., and during my time there I met two great friends, Tony Joun and Jay Diaz.
After college, Tony, Jay, and I would team up throughout the years creating short films, and web series. My first short film I wrote was called The Wake, which I directed, Tony shot, and Jay produced. From that moment on we were hooked as teammates.
I fell into the entertainment accounting world, working for Shout Factory (a DVD and music label), then finally venturing out freelance and producing digital content with Jay and Tony for The Recording Academy (aka The Grammys), and Yahoo! where we had a 3 season run of a web series called The Flip Side.
During this period Jay and I started Cinevent Productions which specializes in cinematic video production of Weddings and other live events. We have been filming weddings since 2009.
For the past 3 1/2 years I worked at the LA based hip hop radio station Power 106, where I led the digital video team producing content for the station as well as for companies like Apple & Jeep. In late 2017, I decided to become freelance again and venture on my own. Currently I edit content for You Tube influencers, as well a variety of other video content for brands and of course for couples on their wedding day.
Beyond weddings, I produce commercials
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definite pitfalls along the way. For example, At a young age I quit a full time job having believed that I booked a major commercial gig, only come to find out contracts were not signed and the client backed out. I’ve doubted my ability to do what I love, which is to tell stories visually, especially when I was in jobs that were not in the pursuit of my passion. The freelance world is a roller coaster so there were times of no work, and very low income. Luckily, my girlfriend now wife, Regina helped get me through these tough times with her love and support, which is a big reason I’m where I’m at now.
Please tell us about Daniel Marcha (Brand Content Production Work) and Cinevent Productions (Weddings & Live Events).
As a personal brand, I bring my love of storytelling to everything I do. Whether its an add for a shampoo product, a new car, or an original story I’ve written- there is always a story to tell within it. What sets me apart is that I can capture those stories to help the audience/consumer relate to that item. Find a meaning behind it all.
For the wedding business Cinevent Productions- we specialize in the way in which we tell the story of a couple big day. We pride ourselves in being like flies on the wall, allowing our clients to enjoy one of the biggest days of their lives together, and in the end providing them with a beautiful memory that they can revisit again and again. I’m proud that clients still continue to see that within our work and still want us to capture their day. We don’t stage moments, as that wasn’t a natural part of their day. We capture the bride hugging the flower girl, the mother of the groom wiping away tears of joy watching her son have his first dance. Those are the moments that bring tears to our clients eyes.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is camping and sitting around the fire telling ghost stories. I have a love for the horror film genre and I think it all started there. My love to be scared, and a love of storytelling.
