Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Lue.
Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I was a huge fan of superheroes and because of that, I wanted to have a physique like The Incredible Hulk (except for the green skin). The only problem was that I was very skinny. When I was in high school, I asked my mom if I could join the local gym so I could start lifting weights. She was afraid that weight lifting would stunt my growth, so instead she enrolled me in a Kung Fu school. It was there that I learned flexibility and body weight training that I still use and teach today.
When I went off to college at the University of Texas, there was a gym available for students. The moment I picked up my first dumbbell, my life was never the same. As my body changed, I realized it wasn’t just a physical change, but more importantly a mental change as well. I realized that if I knew exactly what I wanted and could believe and visualize it, that it would eventually come to pass.
After graduating with a degree in finance, I worked as a corporate tax accountant. My dream was to be an actor, but it was difficult to justify leaving a stable career for something seemingly so unstable. I needed something that would give me the courage to take the leap of faith. That something came a few years later when I was cast to be on my favorite TV show, “Survivor”.
Suddenly, I went from being an accountant to being on the number #1 TV show in America. After the season ended, I packed up my clothes and my coffee maker and left for Los Angeles.
I started working immediately as a personal trainer for ‘The Sports Club LA’ in Beverly Hills (now Equinox). Just being in Beverly Hills enabled me to network and build connections with amazing influencers and celebrities. I was able to sign quickly with commercial and theatrical agents.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Los Angeles is not the easiest town to succeed in, but it definitely provides the best opportunity. Being surrounded by prosperous and wealthy people, it made me wonder how one person could be successful while another person with the same abilities could be unsuccessful. I was going out to a lot of auditions, and I was booking TV and film roles, but it was sporadic. It was frustrating.
Around that same time my mom introduced me to a teacher named Neville Goddard. I had read books from other self-help teachers, such as Tony Robbins and Napoleon Hill, but my outlook and understanding of life completely changed as I studied Goddard’s work. I realized that what I experience in my life is a reflection of what I believe to be true of myself.
I immediately applied his principles and techniques as I learned them and I was shocked by the positive results. I was able to discover opportunities I couldn’t see before, and it increased my confidence to a new level.
I’ll tell you about a time when I first applied one of these principles, called the Law of Revision. It was Christmas Eve and I was visiting Houston, and my parents wanted to drive to Austin to buy a new car for my brother as a surprise Christmas gift. We had to rush because the dealership was closing early. On the way there, just one block before our rest stop, I was pulled over for going a whopping 7 miles an hour over the speed limit.
I wanted to be upset by it, but I remembered what I studied about the Law of Revision and decided to test it out. I imagined that we pulled into the parking lot of our rest stop ticket free. I imagined that scene over and over again until it felt as if that’s what actually happened. As soon as we arrived at the dealership, I received a text from my banker at Chase. I had opened a new bank account, and I was supposed to receive $200 for that. I had already received the money, but due to an error, it arrived very late. As an apology for the mistake, he texted me saying that he was giving me an additional $200. I looked at my speeding ticket and the fine was exactly $200. I was astonished. Then, during the negotiation for the car, I showed the manager the speeding ticket, and he took off an additional $200 for the car. So, in the grand scheme of things, I was actually thankful for the cop that pulled me over.
When I trained clients, they invariably told me about issues that were going on in their lives. Naturally, I give them advice based on what I had applied from my studying, and they were so amazed by the results of my advice that they urged me to become a life coach.
Daniel Lue Training and Life Coaching – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Everyone has their own “best body” within them. My specialty as a personal trainer is to help clients achieve their own best body. I do this with customized strength, cardiovascular and flexibility training. But what sets me apart is that I also incorporate the spiritual: meditation and visualization.
As a life coach, I find out what the goal of the client is and help them achieve it. It could be a material goal such as a house, a new job, a relationship, or a broader goal such as to be happy. I’ve coached people from all walks of life- doctors, city planners, lawyers, and CEOs. Some may ask how I’m able coach a doctor or a CEO, and the answer is that I do not need to know the X’s and O’s of their occupation. This is because there are universal laws that apply to everyone, and when they are able to clearly see and feel that they are the person they want to be, they have succeeded.
Recently I started making use of my finance degree and joined a Beverly Hills financial services company called Synergy Financial. Not only am I able to help people become physically and mentally healthy, I am able to help people in the area of wealth and finance by being a part of this company.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There’s no greater thrill for me than to receive a call or text from a client telling me that a dream they had almost given up on has finally been achieved. I put in a lot of effort in helping people, so when they succeed, I have succeeded. What I teach clients isn’t mere regurgitation of what I’ve read; it’s based on personal trial and error and experience that I know will work. I truly believe that whoever I work with will succeed.
Personally, I’ve done things that I once thought was impossible- I’ve been in publications such as Business Insider, US News, and the Wall Street Journal. I’ve won a car at a grocery store drawing. I’ve been on TV shows and in movies with people I watched on Saturday mornings as a kid, such as Hulk Hogan, Pee Wee Herman. When I reflect on the achievements in my life, they can be summed up by a quote from Neville Goddard, “Assume you are already that which you seek and your assumption, though false, if sustained, will harden into fact.”
