Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Capellaro.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, Daniel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Daniel Capellaro and I am a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA. My solo project “Dvniel” launched in June of 2019 with my first single “Lie To Me” which is an amalgamation of musical genres including Pop, R&B, Folk, and Country written and produced with Swedish hitmaker Max Billion. I was born in New Jersey and my family moved every few years across the United States to places like New York, Tennessee, Virginia, and Philadelphia. I attended six different high schools and for a stint of time me and my family lived in a tent across the US which helped influence a wide range of musical influences. I now reside in Los Angeles and I have written for and worked with artists and bands such as Tonic, Lifehouse, Maxwell, P!nk, Pitbull, Chris Brown, and Boyz II Men. I work Internationally with Artists and Producers collaborating with Producers such as Emile Ghantous (Charlie Wilson Boyz II Men), Philip Arron (P!nk, Mary J. Blige) Steve Horner (2019 Academy Award Nominee “One Small Step”), Chapters, Max Billion (Violet Skies, Jovani) and JBlu (Mrkts). I am also the paternal nephew of Lee Ving, the infamous lead singer, and creator of the punk rock band FEAR. I’ve written for Pitbull “Hope We Meet Again” off Pitbull’s platinum album Global Warming featuring Chris Brown, and Boyz II Men “As Long As I’m With You” off their album “Collide.” I have a series of singles I’m releasing every month. My most recent release is a remix of “Lie To Me” featuring Producer, Oscar Martin. My official music video for “Lie To Me” was released August 16th and my next single “Starlight” will be coming out early September of this year. Every single I release will be accompanied by an additional collaboration version with various Artists and DJ’s from around the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
At age 19 while living in New York City I had the opportunity to audition for Broadway’s famed musical, RENT. It was after my call-back I was strolling through Bryant Park and met a producer by the name of Philip Arron. Liking my look and noticing I was traveling with a guitar case. Philip signed me to a Production deal which led to me recording my first ever EP at Sony Studios in New York. We then took various meetings with every major label head in NY including LA Reid, Peter Edge, Dave Mcpherson, and Clive Davis. Philip and I got in my Jeep Wrangler and drove cross country while I performed at various clubs and venues and made our journey to Los Angeles. It was in LA that I had a meeting with DJ Morales at Interscope (Jimmy Iovine’s nephew) and got an official Record offer. Simultaneously I had auditioned for the remake of “The Monkees” a new NBC pilot that 19 Entertainment was partnering on and booked the role of the lead singer of the new band and show. I had to make a very hard decision; to turn down my offer from Interscope and sign with 19 Entertainment and NBC, or to continue with my Record offer at Interscope. Days before the pilot was to be filmed NBC backed out of their deal with 19 Entertainment and I was out of a job. I had no producer, no Record deal and no place to live. I was forced to live out of my car for several months and scratched enough money together to buy a tuxedo at a pawn shop so I begin catering and find an apartment. I spent 13 years working at a restaurant in Brentwood building relationships and writing songs and eventually booked the Bonnie Hunt Show and then my Publishing deal at Angry Mob Music. I’ve had a lot of struggle to get where I am today, and it’s because to that struggle that I work my butt off everyday and appreciate the value of “due paying”
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dvniel – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I write songs for a living, which is a dream. I work with Artists from many different genres and collaborate with producers to develop new acts and songs. I have co-created four production teams all specializing in certain catalogs and genres of music including songs for Sync/Trailers, J-Pop/K-Pop, and Pop for Artist pitches. I’m most proud of the team I’ve assembled over the last few years as these specific teams specialize in certain aspects including mixing, producing and writing and we all have an even share in everything we bring to the table and collaborate on.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love Los Angeles! I’m so blessed that my family lives here, too. They moved to Los Angeles from Virginia shortly after I did. My folks have since retired to Tulum, Mexico but my brother, sister-in-law and my nephew are close by, and my wife and I can always enjoy taking day trips to go wine tasting, hiking, camping, and the beach. I love the many benefits California has to offer. The only downside for me is traffic, but even that is ok if you have a comfortable car and a great tune to jam out to!
