Meet Danae Young of Color Way Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danae Young

Hi Danae , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Danae Young, and I am 24 years old. My journey in hairstyling began during my senior year of high school in 2018-2019 when I started coloring extensions. Initially, I didn’t plan on becoming a hairstylist; I was a business marketing major with no specific direction, just a desire to pursue higher education without the struggles that often accompany it.

In August 2019, I started doing hair in Prairie View, Texas. I quickly realized that the demand was not just for coloring but for actual hairstyling. The moment I returned to my hometown, where the hairstyling scene is bustling, I found myself with at least ten appointments lined up within the first four days. Despite feeling that I didn’t have a place in a city where hairstyling is so common, the overwhelming support from my sister, friends, and new clients motivated me to continue on this path.

To formalize my skills, I attended The Franklin Institute in Houston, Texas, where I obtained my cosmetology license. Over the next three years in Houston, I focused on building my clientele, and during this time, I learned not only the technical aspects of hairstyling but also a great deal about myself. This journey has allowed me to transform my passion into a fulfilling career, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey took a challenging turn when I lost my grandfather on January 13, 2020. Having just returned home from college and turning 20, I felt completely lost. With the provider and man of the house gone, I struggled to navigate life. His passing caused me to lose my spunk, my charisma, and my ability to be the social butterfly that I once was. As a hairstylist, networking and connecting with people are crucial to success, and this loss made it difficult for me to engage with clients and the community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As I mastered my craft, I transitioned my business name from “Colorway By Nae” to “Color Way Styles,” reflecting my growth. I am now a master stylist specializing in extension custom coloring, sew-ins, silk press, and natural hairstyles. I am known for producing rich and beautiful custom colors, trendy baby hair, stellar customer service, and sew-ins that last more than two months!

I am most proud of the work God has done in my life and my business, as I am amazed at how far I have come. My high emotional intelligence and professionalism sets me apart from every hairstylist in Los Angeles. I believe that the client is always right, and I strive to create a welcoming atmosphere.

I am now back in LA full-time, accepting new clients, and excited to continue this journey!
