Meet Dan Pineda of Pixelspective Photography in The San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Pineda.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a camera on me, as a kid, I had my a 35mm, 110’s and polaroids, but I bought my first digital camera in 1998 and began using it in what was to be my profession for the very early part of my career, a graphic and web designer. I ran my own design company and had a 9-5 as a marketing director in which photography was a very small part of the daily duties. In 2005 after the movie Wedding Crashers came out a friend of mine got a DSLR camera and wanted to do weddings. I had a chance to play with it, use it a bit and immediately fell in love with it.

I took a photography class, I started to do some “photoshoots” and was constantly taking pictures at all the events that I was at. Slowly getting hired for things here and there for my first photography company. Travel is a huge part of my life, it was at that time that I started my travel and landscape photography which was the first time I started to really receive good feedback and accolades for my work. After a few more years, I opened my second company, one that mainly focused on events, weddings, real estate, and travel. Fast forward 14 years later, and here we are.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I feel with the challenges and obstacles that I had to overcome, I became a better photographer and human overall. At the same time that I started my photography, I also had two toddlers running around. With that pressure of “you have little kids who need you to be there and also provide” I couldn’t just leave my 9-5 to try and start my freelance photography business’es so I always had to do my jobs and projects after work hours or on the weekends. The moment I left my 9-5 to go on my own I think was the scariest point in my life both personally and professionally.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pixelspective Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Pixelspective is a full-service photography company. I feel that I specialize in capturing unique moments at events and weddings. Some of my favorite pictures ever are the black and whites that carry so much emotion in them that you feel like you are part of it even if you were not there. I capture great colors and views in my landscape and travel photos and It has paid for my travels to many unique locations for work and holiday. I have helped all of my real estate clients sell or lease their listings in 45 days or less with well lit and super-wide angled perspectives of real estate properties. I have worked with a few multi-national food companies and restaurants. Some of my work has been viewed by millions of eyes on displays at supermarkets and menus. Drone photos and videography is the new medium that will take Pixelspective further into the photography world.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Everything I have done has been amazing, but lately, flying my drone has become the coolest part of my career so far. The places that I have flown it, the things I have seen, I feel like its the newest tech and fascination. I can’t wait to take it overseas and start taking shots and video of landscapes that haven’t been seen in that way from those views. In addition to that, I just became the staff photographer for two magazines and I think my name will just keep getting put out there here in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles.
