Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Nunn.
Cynthia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It was a vision given to me through GOD. After my Mom and Sister passed, So many things were going through my mind. Then witnessed death after deaths I started thinking what can I do to try and help people/Youth wanna live. Being an ex-gang member myself and knowing people from all walks of life. GOD felt I had more experience than most HE put me on a journey that I thought was just a vision, that he felt I was tough enough to handle and passion about, at the same time, that’s helping the kids/Youth/people and the world.
I say the world because I get calls from around the world, you figure everybody doesn’t get that calling on their life. I was an eight years childcare provider, six years foster parent so I’ve been dealing with kids all my life and before either of the two, I’ve raised hundreds of kids. So to see and hear about them die in and going to prison it hurts and saddens me. So I have what I call a youth/ resource and referral center. Where we do everything are giveaways include: Easter baskets giveaway, Backpack giveaways, Turkey Giveaways and Toy giveaways along with snow for the kids I said some kids will never be able to see snow so I wanted to bring it to them all thanks to Dr Dre for donating the snow and toys every year we’ve done other giveaways but those are Annual. Also, a free food giveaway every Saturday and throughout the week, thank you to the Food Bank as well. But most of All Thank GOD Because without him none of this would be possible…We do sooo much more Community Events as well.
Has it been a smooth road?
A great part of the struggle is getting people to look forward and not judging the past, getting them to believe in what we stand for. Depending on donations from different companies and people become a month to month struggle as well. Also finding the right person/people to speak to and getting them to believe in my organization makes it hard sometimes, however because I believe in my Journey, I refuse to give up and will continue forward. I believe if GOD Brings it to you, HE will see You through it.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
My organization just wants to be as helpful as we can throughout every day living. We help people find jobs. At times we get a housing list. We do Community Service, We have a Summer Camp every summer and the kids love it. Clothing and shoe giveaways, Bible Study, Gospel Concerts, hygiene kits, diapers giveaways, Assistant director of Compton Sounder drill team, different workshops, & Classes. Our main focus is on kids/youth bullying. We are known for helping anyone, everyone deserves a chance. I am most proud to be able to give back and see the smile on these kids faces especially when they see that snow and toys. We were also Donated a 2018 van to take the kids on trips by Dr Dre. Because we have a revolving door even when the office is closed, we’re still working. Especially with the Prevention and Intervention because it happens anytime…For the last five years we’ Honored our fire department in our City.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I pray to have one of the biggest Youth Centers where parents will know where their children is at and everything that comes with it, but that’s between GOD and My self. S.Y.L.V.I.A.-N.U.N.N.A.N.G.E.L.S.(Stop Youth Living Violence In America Need Unity Needing It Now Against Negative Gang Environment Living Straight) long I know. It’s my sister name our last name and my love for Angels.
