I have 30 years of police and military service. The training and experience I’ve received over the years was a natural conduit into the security field. Over the years I’ve seen people and businesses victimized.
They lose the things they love, have built and worked hard to achieve. I hate seeing people being taken advantage of. That is one of the reasons I became a police officer. I believe people who serve their communities and country feel a sense of responsibility to protect, contribute to and make their communities better. Being in law enforcement for as long as I have been has given me a unique insight and perspective into how better to secure infrastructure and protect life.
Security and protection are two very different things. In law enforcement, we base our response level on the seriousness of the crime or situation. I have modeled my company similarly. When a client contacts my company their problem is carefully assessed and a STAR (security threat assessment report) is prepared. Based on this report and the clients desired security footprint we offer and agree to an appropriate level of response.
This response ranges from standing uniformed Security Specialists to discreetly armed protection personnel, with my background I have access to highly trained individuals who specialize in many different fields. This access gives me the ability to employ these individuals who have years of experience and unique skill sets in critical areas.
Being an Assistant Watch Commander with the Los Angeles Police Department requires me to read and react to rapidly evolving situations. I analyze a problem and look for unique and innovative ways to combat the situation at hand. I then apply a solution using my resources and follow up to ensure the situation has been mitigated. These are the same skill sets I employ when providing security services to my clients. Having worked, still working and being involved in military and para-military organizations for years have given me invaluable skills and experience to assess and respond to a problem in a coordinated and regimented manner.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is never smooth sailing when you start and run a business. I view obstacles and challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow. Quality through continuous improvement is a core value which challenges an organization to learn and grow through honest introspection. The day to day problems which occur on a security detail are in large part resolved by empowering my Team leaders to make decisions based on real time analysis. From a dead battery on a security vehicle to last minute personnel issues I trust my team to resolve these issues and complete the mission.
One of the challenges in the security industry is overcoming the stereotype of lazy, unprofessional looking security guards. By employing the right people, with the right skill sets and assigning them to the right detail greatly improves upon the client’s perception… Training, motivating and mentoring are all tenants we use to develop and retain employees. Happy employees greatly reduce HR problems and enhances operational effectiveness. Clean and sharp looking uniforms and maintaining high standards is another way to overcome negative stereotypes in the security industry. For uniformed assignments, I demand a clean uniform and appearance, I provide my specialists a professional uniform and gear and when the security detail requires plain clothes, the specialists wear appropriate clothing and gear agreed upon by the client. I hire and retain quality people and in turn get quality work.

When high profile individuals (celebrities, athletes, CEO’s etc.) travel, CW Security Group provide ODO personnel to secure their residences, personal belongings and loved ones. Our personnel can coordinate and oversee scheduled services at the residence while protecting and securing the property and belongings.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
CW Security Group has positioned itself to be able to expand. We have access to a large experienced pool of security personnel which allow us to offer and perform security services without compromise.
