Meet Crystal Perez of Dash Radio in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Perez.

Crystal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Setting out, I always thought that having a job in Radio was the coolest thing I had ever heard of. How could it not be? You’d get to listen to music all day, interview all kinds of artists, contribute as a voice to your community, and basically go on dope field trips all while getting paid for it.

I was only in elementary school when this idea dawned on me. I could hear it in their voices everyday on the way to school, there was always an excitement in the studios of these morning zoo shows! It seemed so lively to me. It was always entertaining in a way that the news on broadcast television just couldn’t really match.

I even remember my big sister egging me on once to call into a popular night show – and I did! When the personality asked what my name was, I told him it was Rumpelstiltskin, haha. I guess you could say the medium charmed me at an early age. Nothing has changed.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel like the biggest struggle you’ll face in this industry is self-doubt, there have been many moments that I felt discouraged throughout this journey. You just have to remember that you cannot be compared to anyone else and that there is room for everyone to succeed.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dash Radio story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a radio personality, MC, and DJ. I currently host a latin mixshow on Dash Radio (Dash Latin X) called Ritmo, comprised of myself and my co-stars, DJ Javie and Drew.

Aside from that I also help with the hype at different nightclubs and events as an MC, plus I have started to DJ as well. I have a lot of fun with it and go by the nickname Creamy Mami when I’m in the mix.

I’d like to think my voice is what stands out most about me when it comes to being on-air or when I’m performing as an MC, but as a DJ, I feel like my song choices are what set me apart. I’m most proud to just keep doing me through it all.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have often thought of myself with hard luck while going through this game, but in retrospect, that might have just mental. It’s easy to make your own luck by believing in yourself.
