Meet Crystal Duran of CrystalArts Dance Academy in Tarzana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Duran.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with a dream and became a reality. I’ve always dreamed of being a dancer and owning my own dance academy. I am a dancer, an Instructor, and now a young Latin entrepreneur. My mission is to motivate others and to crystallize their dreams, talents, arts for all ages.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Can you walk us through some of the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
1st; My struggles all began at a young age when dad wanted to enroll me in dance classes but couldn’t afford them. So, he became my first dance instructor. My dance journey officially began when I joined Reseda’s high school dance team.

2nd: Another struggle would be when my ex-business partner took advantage and used me for his convenience for “Our” dance company.

3rd: Also, Dealing with trustworthy landlords at my 1st location.

4th: Lastly, opening your own and new business with no money.

All these struggles have made me who I am today and have given me the opportunity to run a successful business.

On August 19th, 2015, CrystalArts Dance Academy was born. I was only 24 years old when I started my company.

I specialize in Salsa, Bachata, Hip-Hop, Wedding choreography and more! I do it all. I’m known for many things and one specifically in wearing pink Latin heels. What I am most proud of as a company is that I offer all styles of dancing for all ages and most importantly that I’ve created a second home for my community. Everyone is always welcomed!

What sets me apart from others:
I am a young woman.
I am Latin-American.
I have an amazing personality.
My philosophy: It’s all about the passion, the money will come later.
I care about students dance journey and progress.
I give opportunities to my community.
I offer classes for all styles, all ages.
My pink heels and There’s only one of me and no other CrystalArts Dance Academy like mine!

What were you like growing up?
My personality has always been happy, passionate, ambitious, risk-taker, positive and have the biggest and kindness heart.

My interest have always been in pursuing my dreams, helping family, inspiring others and continue on growing and learning.

I love life!
