Meet Crystal Correa of C + Media Productions in DTLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Correa.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Crystal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Always been in love with art as a kid. All mediums make me happy but the one that is the most rewarding is a film. Filmmaking wasn’t something my family knew anything about so I was on my own to discover how the business works. Lucky for me, I have always been one to figure things out very quickly. I respect all the departments and understand the value of good teamwork… and most importantly I always focus on the “big picture”. I went into film as an actor and slowly made my way to writing my own screenplays and now directing them to completion.

I launched “C+Media Productions” in February 2018, our first project is “Crystal the WebSeries” a comedic tribute to my early 20’s. It’s true what they say about the quiet ones… we overthink and we are very very loud. On the inside, of course.

And once the series started to get accepted to festivals, I knew I made the right decision with putting my ideas out there.

Currently, we are in pre-production for “Crystal” and other projects.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been very bumpy. Filled with many parking tickets and some tows ha but you learn fast.
And I came to LA during the beginning or a shift so I got to see this amazing ” female filmmaker” movement from the start. Amazing talented women kept me going to complete my project and not give up. Also, the city has always guided me to the ” next step” to safety.

I was able to learn so much on my own too. The city gives you the space to grow if you let it. And my focus was on how things work from the ground up, let’s just say my computer science background came into the handle.
Got to troubleshoot on a daily and it doesn’t get easier but you learn to adapt to your environment and you want that skill!

Please tell us about C + Media Productions.
C+Media Productions is a content creating company.

The idea is we take a story and put together a ” proof of concept” that can be enjoyed as if it’s been picked up by a bigger studio.

We focus on the “look and feel” of the project.
It’s all about details. And I am a huge fan of finding the right fonts, it took months to get the right marketing social media plan for “Crystal the WebSeries”.

With ” Crystal the WebSeries”, I wanted it to be releatable to a large group of people so the everything was filtered through and every-time we did a festival, we regroup to see what changed we could make to improve the viewers enjoyment.

It takes time but it’s was worth it.

And now that we have a format to follow, I am proud about that and hope we keep going. I like to aim at “realistic” so with me you will get the honest truth. I come from a very loud and real Puerto Rican family, so it’s built into my core. Not always the most popular person but I think the world is ready for that change.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. You need all the lessons in order to be grateful at the end of the day.

I am very happy with my life. Life is hard, it will always be hard and you got to live it. Without apologies and regrets. Also it wouldn’t be a good story if everything went smooth.

And I have a great family and kid because I always look forward and not backwards.
