Meet Crystal Castillo-Guster and Spidey Guster of Zulu Dance Foundation in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Castillo-Guster and Spidey Guster.

Crystal and Spidey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I started Zulu (inspired by Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu Nation) about ten years ago. First started as a studio dance program with a few kids who we taught dance lessons to and now we have two studio dance programs in North Hollywood and Grover Beach and are now also an after-school program located in about 50 schools and three states (California, Texas, & Hawaii) and we’re looking to expand to even more states!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s a road we chose and we love! We try not to focus with the struggles, but one of the struggles we recently are dealing with is due to the high demand of our program in different locations we do have to travel separately which causes us to be apart for days and weeks at a time.

Please tell us about Zulu Dance Foundation.
Zulu Dance Foundation is a dance program that focuses on the positivities of hip-hop dance and through dance lessons, games, and dance routines we teach our students that hip-hop is peace, unity, love, and having fun! We are very proud that we are able to bring joy through dance to so many kids and we feel our passion for what we do sets us apart from others 🙂

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We’ve always been willing to take the risk! If you never try; you’ll never know! And we’ve always been faithful no matter if the reality didn’t look good; we knew the promises God gave us! “Faithful over little; ruler over much”.
