Meet Cris Bennett of Good Stuff Restaurants in South Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cris Bennett.

Cris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Fell in love with the restaurant business the first weekend I worked as a busboy at 16yo. Came home and told my parents that I was going to own a restaurant. I went to college and graduated from the University of Denver from the business school with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management. Got a job as a manager in a restaurant in Manhattan Beach and a year later in 1979, I opened a small 450 square foot burger stand on the Westside…

Still working as a manager in the MB restaurant for another year until I found my second location on the beach in Hermosa Beach! What a find! Quit my day job and started to build my Good Stuff restaurants! I currently have 5 locations in the South Bay of LA.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The restaurant business is anything but smooth. Hard work, attention to detail and being consistent is the key. I always believed in the founder of Mc Donalds theory that you can’t be in this business with a short-term mentality.

Keep your stores fresh, clean and consistent! Look at the long-term success, not the day today. Always build for tomorrow!

Please tell us about Good Stuff Restaurants.
Good Stuff is best known for fresh and healthy meals! We specialize in breakfast but are also open for lunch and dinner. When someone thinks of Good Stuff they probably associate us with amazing and unique breakfast items.

Such as CAB beef and quinoa scramble, Cris’ Breakfast Salad, Fresh Cinnamon Swirl French Toast and Tropical Green Smoothie to name a few.

What am I most proud of?
Our amazing reputation, our great employees, and our delicious menu. I have been eating here for over 39 years and never ever have gotten tired of the food!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Camping out in the backyard and cooking breakfast for my family over a fire pit that my dad build for me.
