Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig S. Ross, D.C.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As an 8-year-old Little Leaguer, I hurt my back so bad, my parents carried me into the doctor’s office. Dr. Smith told my parents, “He must have caught a chill in his back.” Even at 8 years old I knew there was no way in 102 degree weather in the Valley that the crippling pain I was having was from a chill. I would go on for years having an episode every other year or so. It only occasionally interfered with my baseball activities. Then one summer after my college baseball season, I had a back episode so bad it lasted 6 months. Nothing helped it. I decided to try a chiropractor. I was a physical education major and his explanation of my spine and muscles made so much sense to me, I thought, “I should do this.. (and yes — the chiropractor helped my back)
Six years later, I was sitting in my first class of chiropractic college. I did really well in school and with my sports background, Sports Injuries was my planned area of expertise. Life doesn’t always work out as planned. I had a baseball injury where I fractured my shoulder in 5 places. I figured my career was over as a chiropractor (I even got my real estate license). While taking continuing education classes to keep my chiropractic license active I stumbled into a class on cranial adjusting. It would turn out to be easy on my broken up body and getting fantastic results (I even was named International Practitioner of the Year). Through much trial and error, research and modification, I developed my own technique, Neuro Cranial Integration. I have trained doctors in 36 states and 9 different countries with this powerful technique.
Neuro Cranial Integration or NCI for short is about gently and quickly balancing out the structure of the body and allowing the nervous system from the brain to the tips of the toes to function better. Although it has clinical application for sports injuries (the Texas Rangers Baseball team chiropractor use it on the players), it helps patients get their lives back from chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Parkinson’s, Stroke and more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had many injuries of my own which have made practice more difficult at times. However, through my own injuries I have learned to be empathetic to people with injuries and chronic conditions. Even when the road has not been smooth, my love for what I do has always carried me through. I have been in practice for over 30 years and can’t ever imagine not helping people with their problems.
Chronic Condition Care of West Hills and Santa Monica – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have two practices and teach classes to other doctors (I also travel to Northern California quarterly to see patients up there). I am proud of the technique (Neuro Cranial Integration) I developed and the doctors I have trained. It is very gratifying to see someone get their life back, but it is just as gratifying hearing a story from a doc I trained in Australia that was able to get miraculous results with one of their patients.
Being the Developer of Neuro Cranial Integration would have to set me apart from other doctors in the area. However, I enjoy being known as the local doc that patients go to when all else has failed.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I had a chronic migraine patient that had daily migraines for 8 years. Multiple trips to the hospital each month. The patient had tried everything. He came into my office and within a few short weeks he was going days without migraines, then weeks without migraines. That was exciting — however, the best part was when his wife came into my office crying. I asked her why she was crying. She said, “We are going on a vacation for the first time in 8 years.” I have had many experiences like this over the years, but knowing the effect it has on everyone else a patient comes in contact with is very gratifying.
