Meet Craig Elliot of Capitol Blue Print

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Elliot.

Craig, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Capitol Blue Print Co. started in 1958 at Paramount Studios. I was hired in 1991 by the second owner. I worked for 10 years learning the ins and outs of running a small reprographic shop and was fortunate enough to take over and purchase the business in 2001 and become the 3rd owner.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Since taking over, my main challenge in 2001 was to upgrade, learn and get machines that were up to date with our growing digital world. Running a small business is always a challenge, but because of my work ethic and willingness to learn new things, buying all the new machinery was the best choice I could have made. We are here today because of these choices.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Capitol Blue Print Co. story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a small, full-service Reprographic Printshop. Our main clients are Architects, Movie Studio Set Design, Builders and Developers. Capitol Blue Print offers full plotting services, scanning, overnight shipping, pick up and delivery and color posters. Some large projects we have been working with the past 2 years include Dream Hotel in Hollywood, Tao Restaurant in Hollywood, many mixed-use apartments and retail, and commercial projects all over Los Angeles. Personal service and fair prices is what we are known for.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say luck and hard work has gotten me to where I am today. I was 21 years old in 1991 looking for a job in the Blueprinting field and by chance called Capitol Blue Print Co. Previous owner just happened to be losing his right-hand man at the time and interviewed me. I was hired and here we are 27 years later still going strong.
