Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Conant.
Craig, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was always a wild kid getting in and out of trouble. As I got older, I started partying, drinking and drugging. I was arrested three times and finally after the 3rd arrest, I decided enough was enough. I’m going to get sober and I’m going to get into stand up. I did just that. I started doing open mics and meeting friends and (very) slowly building my name. I met some famous dudes that took me on the road (Bobby Lee, Chris D’elia & Michael Yo). I was selected for JFL New Faces which got me management and into clubs and I started to headline. And then Covid-19 hit (lol).
Stand up saved my life and I’m grateful for it. My goal in comedy is to show knuckleheads like myself that there is a way out and you do not have to stay down in the dark.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s extremely difficult. Open mics in Los Angeles are god awful and the most depressing sites you ever did see. You are literally performing for four comics who aren’t paying attention and a barista who is blending beverages. You persevere and that’s where you make all your friends.
Luckily, I was born and raised in LA and able to hang at the Comedy Store every night and was seen by the right people.
Honestly, it started to feel like everything was finally going smoothly and then this pandemic hit. Now I’m just trying to learn patience and figuring out this new norm.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a comedian, podcaster & entertainer. I specialize in storytelling and fart jokes. I am known for getting fired from Trader Joe’s because I farted on my manager and the video went viral.
I am most proud of my sobriety and building my name up from nothing. I am a true weirdo… I cannot think of any other comic like me.
What were you like growing up?
I was wild as hell. I ate too much sugar and I loved fireworks. As long as I can remember, I was always chasing the laugh. I’ll put it this way… my mother had her hands full.
