Meet Courtney Wilson of Colossal in Central LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Wilson.

Courtney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
2009 sparked a creative flow for me. With graphic design, then later on starting to make my own clothing. Watching fashion shows on YouTube, interviews of big designers and also music artist that were into fashion. I started using MySpace to edit profiles and they were never ordinary. My friends would tell me about how they would want me to do theirs because of how abnormal mine looked. It would involve fashion, music, photos, and graphic design I’ve done. I would get inspired and start using my spare time on creating clothing pieces as well. Distressing denim as a start, bleaching, and sewing. The more I practiced the better I became and more people wanted me to start making things for them. I took that opportunity to brand myself in the long run, and now I’m known for those talents of mine. I’ve styled music artists in my city, and host for events. Also I’ve had my designs in a recent fashion show. It’s only up from here.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There’s been a struggle, but it’s always sunlight at the end of every storm. This has made me a stronger, independent creator.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Specializing in custom designed apparel, photography, and graphic design, I’m proud that my brand is living up to its name and not just one set craft. My abnormal style sets me apart from others because everything I do is different.

What were you like growing up?
Very creative and into fashion. My personality has always been very laid back and down to earth with a driven mindset of different ideas.
