Meet Courtney Scott of Benny & Bae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Scott.

Courtney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Benny and Bae was started in 2019 by husband and wife team Anderson and Courtney. Shortly after the birth of my daughter, I realized that there was a lack of burp cloths fashioned with a cutout to fit under our little one’s chin. To some this is not a big deal, but our daughter was 5 lbs. AND a messy eater. When feeding her out of a bottle it seemed like half of the milk would end up dripping down the side of her neck. Needless to say, she was a messy eater! So began the hunt for a burp cloth with a neck cutout. One that was contoured around the neck to catch milk dribble. From this, the idea of a fitted feeding cloth (the Brag!) was born.

The company was created with the idea (and hope) to produce a line of high quality Brags for little ones to use and parents to enjoy. Brags are made for little ones who lie down to feed and were created to be absorbent and fitted to the neckline. Traditional bibs are difficult to snap if a little one does not have good head and neck control. In addition, they are not very absorbent. Brags work great for newborns to six months old. We like to say, it’s not a bib, not a burp rag, its a Brag!

We had a mission to create great products for a great value.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think it’s safe to say that starting a company from scratch is never a smooth road. There have many many lessons learned in a short amount of time. One being (as crazy as this sounds)…Not everyone will think your idea is a good idea! Lol, Negative feedback used to feel like a gut punch, but I’ve learned to take it in stride and also understand that all feedback can be used to make you better.

Along with that, there were struggles with understanding the importance of marketing, pricing, inventory, design, packing, etc. Every.single.thing. matters. We are still working to master all areas of the e-commerce business and expect that all of the struggles are not over.

Benny & Bae – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Benny and Bae provides a new type of feeding cloth for babies. It is called the Brag. The Brag is a solution for non-absorbent bibs or ill-fitting burp cloths. What sets us apart is that we are the ONLY company offering a fitted feeding cloth for newborns – six months old!

I am most proud of the fact that we took something from an idea to viable business. It all started with us cutting washcloths to fit around our little one’s neck during feeding time. From that, we now have Benny and Bae.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is defined differently for each person. For me, success means being able to look back and feel pride around your accomplishments while not feeling regret about what did or did not happen. I don’t have markers for success. I think that follow through and effort are all that’s needed. People can (and are) successful in many realms of their lives- not just business.

Pricing:

  • Brag packs range from $4.99 to $16.99 depending on quantity
  • We also sale traditional bibs 4 for $9.99
