Meet Courtney Ghilarducci-Dendy of GhilaDolci Bakery in Bakersfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Ghilarducci-Dendy.

Courtney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a large Italian family, so food was a big part of my upbringing. My Nonna would make ravioli, spaghetti sauce, and biscotti all the time and my mom was always baking, trying new recipes. I loved helping them in the kitchen and knew that was something I wanted to do as a profession. After college, I attended Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena and completed the Baking/Patisserie program and dreamed of owning a bakery in my hometown of Bakersfield. After 10+ years of working in the industry, that dream became a reality and I opened GhilaDolci Bakery.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges when you’re trying to chase a dream…from late nights baking until 4 am, wedding cake deliveries that are down a steep hill, construction setbacks, personal sacrifices, the list goes on and on. But, at the end of the day, if you’re passionate about what you do, you accept that’s just a part of the process to get where you want to go.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
GhilaDolci Bakery specializes in Italian inspired desserts, custom cakes, cookies, and pastries. We love to take classic Italian desserts like the cannoli and put a different spin on it…that’s how our cannoli cookie came to life! And we are proud to say that everything we make is made from scratch.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was adventurous, self-motivated, a neat freak, and artistic. I always loved creating things with my hands and I guess it’s all come full circle.
