Meet Sandra Maestas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Maestas.

Sandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Cookin’Kiddos three years ago. I started Cookin’Kiddos in the hopes I could change the foods our children were eating. My goal was to change the foods being served to children and how it was served. A lot of families reply on the school system to feed their children healthy and nutritious meals. It was a bigger challenge than I expected, and without compromising who I was and what I believed in, I decided to focus on cooking classes and how that is a huge and important life skill that the youth lack. I want to show them cooking and or baking is fun, expressive and a great way to get out of their comfort zone.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a kid my mom would tell me, “nothing in life is easy, but if it’s worth it, don’t give up.” The school system is not too concerned on how nutritious or the lack of nutritious foods our children our consuming. For the families that can not afford to pack lunches and or snack for their children they rely on the school to feed them healthy options which for the most part is not.

As a single mother trying to find balance between building a future for my son with my businesses and always being there for him mentally and physical. I’m learning having aS Support system is essential. I’m finding my way, and coping with fear of failure and that failure is all about learning and coming back strong than before. My mother always says to me “ take one day at a time, and mind over matter”.

Cookin’Kiddos/ Vegan Cuisine by Sandra Maestas – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Cookin’Kiddos & Vegan Cuisine by Sandra Maestas is about showing people especially our future leaders what food looks like in its original form. I want to feed our future leaders with essential lifeskill and knowledge of eating nutritious foods and how all those aspects play a major rule in our over all well being.

We aren’t just a cooking class or catering business. We travel to schools and homes, feeding minds with knowledge of what foods is really about, how it helps our body by eating a plant-based foods. Plant-based and or vegan foods aren’t just salads. Of course, we cook, but you get a little fun fact in ever class.

There are two things I am most passionate about: teaching and food. I want to use my platform for something that is greater than myself. Sharing my love for vegan cooking with others has given me nothing but happiness and purpose! I don’t want people to be intimidated by stigmas, labels, or even hard recipes. Cooking should be fun, expressive, and creative and I hope to ease some of your terrifying thoughts about Vegan foods by sharing my dishes with you and your guests

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me success is accomplishing personal goals that you want and set and achieve. To me success is not defined by wealth, politics or what society thinks you should have. Success is being true to YOU, feeling and being your absolute best and accomplishing what you need for yourself.
