Today we’d like to introduce you to Clara Yu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Clara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born pretty poor in Hong Kong. My family didn’t have much, so in my formative years I really didn’t know much about beauty and skincare. I remember one time when I was about seven years old, my older brother and I snuck to the wealthy part of town and wandered around. As we were walking we saw these women dressed beautifully, gorgeous and glowing, walking out of a fancy building, with big bags in their hands. When I looked up, I saw these three English letters, ” S P A.” I went home and asked my mom what a S P A meant and when she told me, it’s a place where people go to look and feel beautiful, I was immediately hooked. And, that’s why being a Dr. started as my goal and fortunately became my life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely isn’t easy coming to a new country, speaking no English and being in hand-me-down clothes. I had kids making fun of me because my clothes were too big or were boys clothes. I feel like my brother’s and I got thrown into the mix of school right when we arrived and it wasn’t the smoothest transition. That being said, I am very grateful to have had an amazing family supporting me and made some amazing friends, too. I think I faced some similar challenges along the way that most kids and teens face, as to where I fit in. I was lucky to find my passion early, so I did whatever I could to turn that into a reality. I had Dr. on the brain and would watch TV shows like ER back in the day and say I want to be like them. Fast forward a bit, I’ve now been doing aesthetics for almost ten years and train other Dr.’s and nurses all over the states and the world 🙂 There was a lot of hard work involved in that fast-forwarding part, but all the schooling and training involved has been well worth it.
Beauty Cult – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Beauty Cult is a botox bar. We have an open facial bar concept where our esthetician’s give our signature facials and two injection rooms where I do anything from Botox, fillers, PDO Threads, Sculptra, etc.. Our main focus is on the face. Making people feel good from the outside in. I love our look and feel. It’s very much our own from the color scheme to our Instagram wall, even our bathroom is done so elegantly. The feedback we have had so far from clients is incredible, as to their favorite parts of the spa! More importantly, when I get positive feedback from my clients as to their results it makes me feel terrific. I am really proud of our welcoming environment, our great team and the customer service they give. And, I love that we have our own line of product we use in our facials and retail.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Becoming a self-made entrepreneur. When you come from where I come from most people just hope to get out and maybe if you’re lucky get a high school diploma. For me on February 7th, 2019 when the Beauty Cult doors opened I felt like I not only did something amazing for myself and my family but also showed little girls who come from nothing that anything they dream is absolutely possible!
