Meet Chuck Dizzle of Home Grown Radio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Dizzle.

Chuck, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While attending CSULB around 2004 I got my start in radio interning for 100.3 The Beat here in Los Angeles. That opportunity allowed me to see how each department in radio worked and over the years moved my way up on multiple occasions, from a street team member to an on air personality. One thing I was able to identify was how much of a void there was for local talent at the time.

I created Home Grown Radio to not only fill that void but connect with like-minded people who were on the same mission, like my partner DJ HED. As the underground hip hop scene in LA began to buzz, we took HGR from college radio to an online show broadcasting from my apartment and flipped that into a media infrastructure so that other DJs & Hosts could operate with the same vision supporting the artists we believed in. Early TDE, Terrace Martin, Problem, YG & Ty Dolla $ign just to name a few.

Home Grown Radio can currently be heard Saturdays from 7pm-12am on Real 92.3 Los Angeles.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not by a long shot…

I’ve seen stations switch up formats; forcing me out of a job, been fired, passed up on, confirmed interviews cancel at the last minute, people not understanding our vision, money wasted, legal disputes, equipment malfunction, unreliable people.

I mean the list goes on…

However ALL of these “struggles” build character in my opinion. In each scenario listed I can also pinpoint the lesson I learned and how it’s allowed me to be a better person.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Home Grown Radio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Home Grown Radio is a media network based in the greater Los Angeles area; since 2007 our platform has been dedicated to discovering and bridging the gap between what’s deemed underground and mainstream in hip hop.

As founder my responsibility is to ensure Home Grown Radio maintains its core values and that our message is properly distributed to the audience with integrity. Staying on the pulse of “what’s next”, overseeing social media content, producing podcasts and often times becoming the face of the company as a radio personality are just a few day to day examples.

I’m most proud that Home Grown Radio represents what’s possible. People witnessed our journey from interviewing an emerging Kendrick Lamar from the bedroom of my apartment to broadcasting on iHeartRadio’s REAL 92.3 in Los Angeles + recently being featured in the LA Times.

I’m known around as “the nice guy” so I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to have an optimistic vantage point in all scenarios.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Super cliché but the weather is hands down the best thing about LA.

Transplants – People who move to LA from God knows where and chose to talk down on the city. Like bruh…go back to where you came from then! That and gas prices but I’m currently sitting on 1/4 tank so the transplants gotta go!!!
