Meet Christy Biberich of Christy B. Design in Mid Wilshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Biberich.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The story behind why I do what I do probably began as a kid, when I meticulously scoured home and garden magazines for house plans and imagined renovating the 150-year-old farmhouse I grew-up in. But the origins of my career are rooted in what was the new and burgeoning business of professional organizing in the early 2000s. I saw an opportunity to do two things I loved immensely; transform spaces and improve people’s lives. And that is how I began, as a professional organizer.

I had an art background, an eye for color, and was rather handy so I quickly expanded to providing decorating help to my clients and even found myself finishing abandoned handyman work throughout their homes. It wasn’t until several clients asked me to manage their home renovations that I knew I had found my calling. Renovation and design combines everything I love about using both the left and right brain to create amazing transformations that positively impact lives.

I had a lot to learn about the industry so I acquired and honed my skills by working for various companies in custom cabinetry, space planning, furnishings, and design. I founded Christy B. Design to focus on what I do best: Renovation Design and Planning. I now get to work with talented architects, builders, and vendors to help homeowners rule their renovation and create a home they love.

Has it been a smooth road?
I struggled early on in my career. I’m a hard worker so I was always busy, sometimes running two side jobs while I built my business. At one point, I had two cell phones and a blackberry and I thought I was going to lose my mind! But my greatest challenges along the way were my lack of clarity and confidence. I wasted a lot of time denying that I wanted to work in the interior design field, and then when I hesitantly made the transition, I felt like an imposter.

I also suffered some losses that were out of my control. I was working my butt off designing and selling kitchen and bathroom cabinetry to multi-residential development projects. Then the real estate crash happened. Many building projects were abandoned and the company I was working with went out of business. I lost all of that planned income and had to quickly figure out what to do next.

The key has been adapting and just continuing to work no matter what.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Christy B. Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are an Interior Design firm specializing in Renovation Design. We handle all aspects of designing and managing a home renovation. I am best known for my space planning and organized approach and I’m very proud of my attention to detail. There are some unsavory stereotypes in my industry that I have intentionally rebuked and I think it gives my company great integrity:

-Our focus is on manifesting the client’s style, not serving our own aesthetic.
-We are straightforward in our pricing and we try to be fair and transparent.
-I’m the furthest thing from a diva and that’s refreshing, especially in LA.
-I’m an organized creative person, not always a common combination.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I’ve always loved about LA is that it truly is the land of opportunity. You can be riding the bus one day, hustling to build your dream, and the next day get hired to decorate for a Hollywood director. I know because that is part of my LA story. We’re very lucky, we have access to everything here.

On the other hand, it can be a tough city to navigate, and I don’t just mean traffic wise! It took me many years to build a solid social circle and feel like I belonged. LA is enormous and it can feel like it swallowed you whole and you’re so insignificant. It’s important to develop friendships and community here.
