Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Scott.
Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you. I’m so appreciative of your interest.
When I interned at an agency in 1995, I found everything about the projects, actors, and casting exhilarating. The appreciation and happiness that actors expressed when they got auditions and bookings were infectious. The fast-paced nature of the industry was intoxicating. In 1996, I had the opportunity to start my own management business, and I set up shop in Universal City. Since then, I’ve been in the industry, facing both challenges and learning valuable lessons.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel most things appear smoother in retrospect. It has been an incredible journey, relatively smooth with occasional bumps along the way.
The actors’ and writers’ strikes were definite hindrances. It’s incredibly frustrating when you represent a talented actor who consistently delivers amazing work but struggles to get hired. However, when they do book a role, the triumph is even sweeter.
Over the years, I’ve learned numerous lessons. I’ve become more patient and attentive to my clients’ needs, as well as the casting directors’. I’ve embraced the idea of working smarter, not harder. Letting go of actors who lack drive or focus has been a challenge, as I initially felt guilty for potentially crushing their dreams. However, I realized that it was necessary for the agency’s overall success and the satisfaction of my other actors. It’s important to maintain a strong team of dedicated and driven actors who are proud to be represented by CA Talent.
As you know, we’re big fans of CA Talent. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
For those who may not be familiar with CA Talent, we are a dedicated team that works tirelessly to pitch our actors and get them opportunities. We recognize the value of taping, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Taping allows actors to showcase their best performances and gain more exposure with casting directors. It has become an integral part of our strategy to help actors succeed.
We go out of our way for the actors and we are not afraid to reach out to casting. I kept a journal for the first 16 years being in the business. Finding out the casting directors likes and dislikes when pitching. I am extremely diligent in honoring their requests.
It’s important to have a manager on their side when faced with the immense challenges of working their way through all the roadblocks and narrow alleyways of Hollywood. Athletes don’t succeed at the professional level without working closely with coaches & mentors – Hollywood is no different. You need a mentor to help facilitate the extremely challenging journey every actor must face.
I tend to be a workaholic so that definitely helps my success rate. I will be there to catch them if they stumble and fall and help them rise again. I can save actors time and money by guiding them through all of the potholes and needless obstacles; I am an investment in their future in Hollywood.
When I meet an actor that has the talent and drive required to succeed as a professional actor then I’m all in.
I’m willing to take a chance on new talent and look for a diamond in the rough.
How do you think about happiness?
To me, happiness is found in the alignment of my family and my work. When I experience serendipitous moments and feel a sense of flow and vitality, I am filled with gratitude, and it seems to attract even more abundance into my life. These experiences confirm that I am on the right path and bring moments of bliss and liberation from my thoughts.
Spending time with my daughter brings me immense joy, especially when she is home from college. We engage in everyday activities together, but it’s also fulfilling to introduce her to films that have been close to my heart since childhood. We go to see everything! As she grows up, I find happiness in supporting her transition into adulthood and witnessing her finding her own path.
