Today we’d like to introduce you to Christalee Abreu.
Christalee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been a Film/TV Industry Makeup Artist for over 25 years. Although I adored my wonderful job, working my Celebrities and Clients…..something always pulled me toward teaching my craft! I received a phone call from Leonard Engelman who was Cher’s makeup artist and many more Celebs, asking if I would be interested in teaching at his school, Cinema Makeup School. I accepted and soon fell in love with teaching and my students as well. A few years later, I had an accident which actually forced me to leave the industry.
During that time, I started brainstorming about how I could still teach and have it be not too hard on my back injury. That’s when I came up with Kiss N Makeup Artistry Academy, which is very private as I only wanted to take four students at a time, to give my students proper attention…..and here we are!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worthwhile is ever a smooth road, as far as I’m concerned. It’s never easy starting a business. You need money and tons of exposure to get there. It’s been tough! But the school is finally on a roll and I couldn’t be more excited!
Please tell us about Kiss N Makeup Artistry Academy.
I’m thrilled about offering my students a Master Course, which pretty much covers everything you need to know to get started in the Entertainment Industry. It’s also a great course for Salon Artists, who want to be the best they can be! It includes the Beginnings of makeup, learning the Decades…20’s through the 80’s, Black and White Print, Bridal, Stage/Runway, Beginning Special FX and so much more.
When my students leave the classroom with their Certificate of Completion, they walk away with the best I have to offer…including the secrets I’ve learned over the years. Being in a classroom of only 4 people allows me to give them all the one on one that they all so richly deserve.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing! I believe we are all given the trials we are meant to have in order to be the best we can be! I am grateful for each and every one of them, that God has given me, as it has made me the person I am today. I have grown above and beyond in so many ways…..and for that, I am eternally grateful.
