Meet Chris Torretto of Maya Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Torretto.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an actor from the UK that has completed 29 films in 20months and written and directed 2 of my own and moving onto my 3rd. I am up for several awards for being an actor and also an inspiration to others. My story starts as a child who grew up in a rough town but an even tougher home. Things being so tough at home led me to become homeless as a teen until I was almost 21. In 2011 when I got myself on my feet I had a fulltime job and I was doing well. I was brutally attacked and robbed and left for dead. This affected me both mentally and physically. I didn’t leave the house for almost a year.

I had a few ups and downs until I found acting 20months ago. Since then I have been cast for a major tv drama series in L.A. which will be shot at Universal Studios and aired on Netflix. I have also been cast as a lead role in a horror movie there which will be in cinemas worldwide. I have already started my own production company in the UK called Maya Productions. Which I have had the great joy of working with the amazingly talented David Sjorup of Sjorup productions and Lester Goddard of ALG productions. Together we have just finished filming my first feature production called Dorn Nochta. This is a story about a professional fighter who can no longer fight sanctioned so he gets into the underground bare-knuckle fight scene to make money to save his daughter. In the UK I have given the chance to students and newcomers in the industry to work with me, to gain experience and I wish to do the same in L.A. I want to give those with the same passion as myself who also like myself weren’t lucky enough to gain experience and education in the arts a chance to show the world what they can do. I’m all about opportunity and not be discriminating against anyone I want to give those who haven’t already made it a chance. I want to show people that you can make it and you can chase those dreams no matter where you come from or what your past may be. I had a horrific past but I have learned to accept it, it has made me stronger and has given me a drive and ambition that nobody can stop. So trust me if you want something bad enough you just got to go get it with everything that you have got. Anyone who wishes to contact me with regards to acting or filming you can find me on Instagram and Twitter @actingirish2014 .

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I think my biggest struggle was just to be happy with myself and who I am. I knew the fact that I had no qualifications or experience in that line of work that I would have to work harder than most. So that’s what I did. I got in my car and traveled from the top to the bottom of the UK to find work. One bit of advice that I would give if there’s an obstacle in front of you, don’t try and climb over it, dig under it or walk around it. This for some people can take them off their path for years so my best advice is to run at it head on and break through it. Don’t let anything take you off that path.

Maya Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an actor, writer and director and have my own production company. What sets us out from the rest is that we are willing to give everyone no matter what a chance. We look for the overlooked. What I’m proud of? I’m proud of the people that I have got to meet and work within my time in this business.

I’m proud to have what others would call a team but I call friends that share my vision. Am I known? Well, I have achieved more than what anyone has said I could ever achieve in the short time that I have achieved it and I’m only beginning.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My award nominations, finishing my first feature film and being cast for a major tv drama series in L.A.
