Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Sebo.
Hi Chris, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At just thirteen I was a troubled youth without a father and my mother was always working. I say I fell into spray painting graffiti and I have to admit I loved it. Altogether it saved my life. By sixteen I began to use my talent to create a more traditional style of painting experimenting using different items as the canvases and using massive arrays of colors along with my persistent drive for more realistic artwork and a better life I found my love for sharing my visions and paintings with all. Using only spray paints straight from the can itself, some say I have taken art to another level my belief is we are all artists in one way or another and take what we love to do to the next level. Many say when they see me work that it takes them to another dimension often times I have to agree.
My paintings are created, using only spray paints with often both hands at the same time, using different textile materials: such as crumbled up newspapers, saucers, torn poster boards, bottle caps, brushes plastic wrap and whatever else I can find that gives a more profound effect to the canvas. The tremendous detail I create can be compared to a traditional painter creating distinguish strokes with a brush on a canvas only here the technique starts out very different. Quickly with strokes of spray paint across the canvas, then another here and there building layers of paint, then using the textile materials, to rub, scrape, and blend the layers of paint. A brush dipped into a puddle of spray paint for the finer details. Then all of a sudden, like a magician with a final act to awe you, a spectacular visual appears before your eyes!
Without any formal art training, I am consistently developing new techniques to create the desired effects with the paint that matches my imagination. You can visit my imagination simply by just taking a look at the wide range of paintings I create from realistic, surreal, fantasy-like dreamscapes, landscapes, seascapes, wildlife even the outer space, all with expressions of tender explosiveness they all reflect a sense of peace and calm. I spent more than 20 years as a street performer creating art live on the spot entertaining crowds. Most notably in las vegas for over three years and in Waikiki, Hawaii for over 15 years. I’m grateful to say my art has taken me from the streets of Houston, Austin, and San Antonio Texas, to New Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas, California, Guam to my home on the north shore of the island of Oahu, Hawaii were I delicately juggle my time painting and enjoying the beauty that surrounds me for more than 20 years.
In 2021, I won the made in Hawaii contest by Park West Galleries. I am represented by Park West Galleries “the world’s largest art dealer” well known for their art auctions.
You may have seen my artwork online, in newspapers, magazines and on different television shows or even seen me when I did street art performances. I am honored to have my artwork on the walls of businesses, art lovers and collectors around the world. I truly hope my art is as big a blessing and inspiration to you as it has been for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a tough long road but most rewarding.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in using spray paint to make my creations, vibrant and detailed. I’m most known for my fast-paced live painting demonstrations of seascapes and fantasy-like pieces. What set my artwork apart is I’m using only spray paints to make all my creations, as well as my use of vibrant popping colors and my attention to detail.
What are your plans for the future?
My dream for the future includes making lots of art that’s soothing for the soul as well and use this art to create and fund a nonprofit that will focus on the youth and the future well-being of the planet we live on.
