Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris K. Daniels.
Hi Chris K., it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a storyteller. I think that’s the most all-encompassing way to describe it. The excitement began back in elementary school if you can imagine. I talked my cousin into making YouTube videos with me, and the whole craft of “filmmaking” became the most addictive drug I could’ve possibly been exposed to. From the webcam-YouTube days to the camcorder Windows Movie Maker days, to the DSLR Final Cut days, to the Alexa Mini Premiere Pro days, the structure of my life has always been pretty much this way. I love to turn ideas into realities (mostly strange ones.) The scale has changed, but the passion and perpetual excitement for what’s next has not. These days, I’m most excited about the creation of interesting, consistently compelling execution through my work, separate from any specific canvas or medium. Whether it be theatrical films, streamable series, viewable online content or something in-between. I love the process of bringing these odd stories to life, and I’m very thrilled to say, I get to do it every day of my life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been a rocky, winding, stormy path of chaos and absurdity mixed with joy and thrill. I think there was a long period of time where the future was unclear. There was certainty in that I wanted to tell stories and build great things across my life, but the specificity was blurry and oftentimes existentially horrifying. Ironically, it was over the pandemic that I found the time and mind space to think about the future clearly and focus on building longevity and strategy into my long-term goals. And honestly, since then, it’s been pretty consistently exciting and enthralling. Some days are still dread-fueled anxiety parties, but I think that keeps me on my toes.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Cinelaunch?
Cinelaunch is the culmination of so much of my passion, experience, frustrations and desires across my span in the world of creation. To be able to build out a platform that enables motion picture production and financing in the way that Cinelaunch does has been amazing. The projects and future development this has unlocked has been incredible exciting and it’s given me a whole new level of passion behind my work. Fortunately, I have an outstanding co-founder, Joshua Wu, which has made this process all the more thrilling and rewarding. Together, we’re building what I believe will be a complete game-changer for the entertainment industry over time.
What matters most to you? Why?
I always thought my work mattered most to me. If you asked me this question pretty much at any point in the last ten or so years, that would have been my go-to answer. And honestly, my work is incredibly important to me. But I’ve come to realize it’s all deeply and frighteningly meaningless if you don’t have someone (or multiple people) to share that with. I’ve found that professional accomplishments mean very little when there’s not something “real” or “of substance” in your life beyond the work. Something that doesn’t go away when the work does, or during the bad periods. So the last year-ish of my life has been a real deep dive on this thought process and I feel like I’m finally getting to the point where I’m prioritizing the real, significant people in my life. Trust is a tricky thing, so when I have someone I care about and trust with my life, I believe that might just be the thing that matters most to me these days.
