Meet Chris Jon Peterson of Chris Jon Photography in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Jon Peterson.

Chris Jon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally from Australia, I first picked up a camera 12 years ago. With so many actors for friends it became a natural progression into the world of headshots. After gaining success in the small market of Australia, I decided to move to NYC in 2012 and expand my knowledge and work on my craft. After a fantastic learning experience in NY, I moved over to LA in November 2014 and started to focus solely on what I love to do most. Shoot headshots.

Now two and a half years later, we have become known for some of the best headshots at prices actors and business people can afford, doing at least two shoots a day and having a great time in the process.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any business endeavor is ever smooth.

The first year was slow, as I was establishing myself in one of the most competitive markets for headshots in the world. But when you get to do what you love every day you just keep going. And eventually your work and the word of mouth spreads. What I love about the people I shoot is we have a fantastic time working together, and they refer everyone they know. My clients love to share their photos online, which helps the business spread. I have had people travel from San Fran and NYC after seeing their friend’s pictures on Facebook and Instagram.

Moving from Australia to NY and then finally LA. Moving is never fun. Finding the right place to set up a studio and settling in.

The other main struggle was finding a make-up artist who was also fantastic at doing hair.  Luckily for me I found her. Kristine, my hair and make-up specialist. The other major part of our service is having the best team you can, to get you the best shots. And Kristine with her years of experience and her bubbly personality complements the environment perfectly.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Chris Jon Photography – what should we know?
I am a photographer who specializes in headshots for both actors and corporate professionals.

I am most proud of the friendships we make and the loyal referrals we get. How when people come to me and they say they hate getting their picture taken and then after the shoot they say. “Wow, that was really easy and fun, Thank you”.

For me, it’s taking the challenge that they hate having photos taken and turning it into a positive and fun experience.

We are set apart from other headshot companies because my mission and goal is to keep my prices low for the actors and business people. To be an actor in this town takes incredible strength and everything cost’s a fortune to maintain. So many actors miss out on the opportunity to keep their shots looking new because of the cost. My aim is to always be much cheaper than a lot of the photographers, while offering the same high-quality work. And everyone who works with us, realizes that. Which is why our business has grown so fast.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The fact that I love what I do and everything I do for my clients is genuine. People are very intuitive and when they work with me, they can tell that all I want them to do is have fun and relax. And I will take care of the rest.
