Meet Chris Ellis of Audio Cardio in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Ellis, CEO and co-founder of Audio Cardio.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story?
Growing up in the Bay Area, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the brightest minds working on all sorts of cutting-edge technologies. I remember being in middle school, during the dot-com boom, and thinking to myself, “I want to do that. I want to build my own business creating products that people want and need.”

Right out of college, I began working for startups. I tried to learn as much as I could about all the different departments and how they worked together to build successful companies. I was that annoying kid that hopped around from department to department, asking too many questions, mostly starting with the word “how” and “why.” It was an incredible learning experience. My mentors and advisors were pivotal in my early development and still are today.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d like to preface this by saying that challenges, mistakes and failures are a startup founder’s very best lessons. I wouldn’t have the knowledge and skills I have today without the missteps of yesterday.

From the outside, being a founder and entrepreneur sounds fun and exciting. And it definitely is, but it also comes with the other end of the spectrum. It’s incredibly difficult, it takes all your time, energy and mental capacity. Starting a company will test your limits, but it’s incredibly rewarding when you push through and finally find a way.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Audio Cardio is a mobile music platform that protects and enhances your hearing while you listen to your favorite music. We utilize our patented Threshold Sound Conditioning™ technology to stimulate the inner ear cells by sending sound signals specifically tuned for each individual.

Audio Cardio’s mission is to improve the lives of others by helping them protect and improve their hearing ability with our non invasive therapy. We especially want to assist and reach those who can’t afford or access more specialized and expensive solutions.

Our technology has been clinically trialed with Stanford University, Samsung Medical Center, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Nanjing University (China) and Chung Ang University (Korea) with positive results, which makes us believe we can truly make a difference.

And as we learn more and more about the ancillary effects of impaired hearing, especially as it relates to dementia and overall cognitive decline, I feel it is our duty to educate and stress the importance of taking care of your hearing health to the global population.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great city and community to create and build a business. Some of the world’s most creative and talented individuals live and work here. You can find almost every industry within this ecosystem, so no matter what your business is and who your customers are, I’m certain you can find the resources you need here in Los Angeles.

We’re looking forward to building our business in Los Angeles and aim to help make it the global capital of digital medicine.
