Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Castillo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Got my start as a busboy in 1991. Moved up gradually to server, bar back to bartender. Having started from the bottom without a doubt helped us get to where we are today. My love for wine and wine country gradually came to me. I realized that Fullerton was lacking something and a wine bar is what we came up with. At the time, wine bars were non-existent in our area.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been anything but a smooth road. Many obstacles to get over but well worth the struggles because we love what we do. We created a culture at Twisted Vine that is difficult to replicate. We didn’t have a blueprint, it just kind of happened organically. Our customers are more than just customers. Along with our staff, we consider them family and it shows.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Twisted Vine – what should we know?
We are a wine bar restaurant in historic downtown Fullerton. We specialize in fine wines and craft beer from around the world. We are incredibly knowledgeable in our wine and love to talk about it. Having said that, we are very down to Earth and approachable when it comes to wine. We know that wine can sometimes be a little intimidating, especially if you are a novice, but we go out of our way to make people feel comfortable.
I think our customer service sets us apart. It sounds cliche but in our case, it’s %100 true. That’s what im most proud of. Our sincere staff.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think having the ability to surround myself with very talented and creative individuals and letting them do their thing has been my best characteristic over the years. An owner can only do so much. I enjoy giving my staff the freedom to make the Twisted Vine better everyday.
