Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Baldwin.
Chris, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in and out of theater as a technician and actor since high school. I always wanted to get into film but I wasn’t sure as to how. I made a few shorts and sketches, but I began to take it seriously about a year ago. My friend, Avid Eghabli wanted to make an action and suspense film. We weren’t sure if what we were doing was correct or incorrect but we pressed on and created our first short Aggressive Species. Since then I have been on several other projects as a 1st and 2nd Assistant Director. Acting like a sponge and absorbing as much knowledge as possible. I had the opportunity to produce a short film this past year. It was a year of learning and achievement and I couldn’t be happier with how it is going now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some parts are smooth. When the flow of a crew and team is in spark with perfect chemistry, there isn’t much you can’t do. A lot of the struggles and hurdles that have come from this journey have been the “firsts”. How do we accomplish certain things that we’ve never done before? How do we get insurance? What is the proper way to handle a permitting application? Once we learned those steps a lot of anxiety melted away.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
We make films. We capture moments and then stitch them together for an audience to relate go. The work that goes into that orchestration is what excites me. I’m known for scheduling and operation on the days of. I’m apart of a team that is known for its hard work and its drive. I’m very proud of that.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
There are so many. Focus. Patience. Compassion and Creativity. Although I don’t claim these as my biggest strengths, I know that they are the keys to success in any business or operation that includes more than one person and film is that kind of thing. You need each other. That is your success.
