Meet Chloe Caldwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Caldwell.

Hi Chloe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I would be lying if I said that my journey to get where I am today has been anything but an up and down roller coaster full of professional successes and failures, emotional highs and lows, and pretty much everything in between. I’d say that my journey to becoming a writer and blogger started all the way back in high school, although I didn’t exactly know it at the time. I became invested in reading women’s lifestyle magazines on a regular basis and even referred to “Seventeen Magazine” as my Bible. Following this slight obsession, my interest in these kinds of topics flourished while I was in journalism school at the University of Oregon. After graduating in 2017, I worked at a popular women’s lifestyle brand for two years, where I worked on the editorial team and wrote for both the digital and print magazines. Although I loved the majority of my experience working in what seemed like my “dream job” at the time, I knew that there was more that I wanted to do. So I decided to take a leap of faith on myself and pursue freelance writing full time, including long-form articles and copywriting. This is also when I finally launched my blog, By the C. Creating my own content site is something I had always thought about, and this year I finally decided to go for it! Now, I am focused on continuing to find my voice and share it with the world through digital content articles and blogging.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am now has been anything but easy. I’ve faced rejection, failure, and self-doubt just like anyone else who is crazy enough to go after the road less traveled. For years, I’ve had to fight against the inevitable feeling of being “almost good enough.” From making it to the end of an interview process for a writing job that I desperately wanted, to never hearing back from potential clients, to working on building the excruciating slow growth of my audience – these challenging moments had, at times, led me into spurts of depression, anxiety, and feelings of “what’s the point in trying?” Luckily, I have been able to fight through the endless struggles of being a creative dreamer in LA. Every baby step and huge leap towards my goals has been worth every not-so-picture perfect chapter of my story.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently work as a freelance writer who focuses on digital content articles about travel and lifestyle topics. However, I have also done business-focused writing, social media & website copywriting, and brand strategy. I’ve been published in outlets like TripSavvy, FabFitFun, Thrillist, Small Business Journal, as well as other blogs and business sites. I’ve also done copywriting for a variety of brands and agencies in the women’s lifestyle and wellness space. I’m most excited and proud of the launch of my blog, By the C. (bythecblog.com). I publish articles and social media content about life, fashion, beauty, health, and travel, but the majority of my blog is focused on travel as I tend to take any chance I can to explore new places. I have begun specifically focusing my content on unique hotels in different cities and travel guides to lesser-known places. As an extension of the By the C. blog, I have also recently created a YouTube series called By the Glass. The talk show-style episodes dive into issues that 20-somethings face on a regular basis, from dating mishaps to work and life struggles. My goal with both By the C. and By the Glass is to provide honest insight and experiences and to remind other young adults that they are not alone as they navigate the “real world.”

How do you define success?
I define success as feeling fulfilled in every area of my life – personal goals, relationships, career aspirations, financial stability, etc. But don’t get me wrong, I am still continuously working towards my definition of success and have a LONG way to go!
