Meet China Givens of The Hair Bar Of Beverly Hills and The Hair Bar Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to China Givens.

Hi China, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After graduating high school, I went to three different colleges and tried three different majors (Sociology, Medical Coding and Billing & Child Development) one after the other while working and being a mother. I quickly found out that I wasn’t really interested in those fields. I worked many different jobs after that and finally decided to go to Cosmetology school. On the first day, I fell in love and knew this is where I was supposed to be. I knew I wanted to have my own salon in Beverly Hills, so my first hairstylist job after graduating Cosmetology school and getting my Cosmetology License was at a new salon in Beverly Hills on top of doing hair at home. I worked there for a short while and then moved on to blow dry bar close by. In the 2 1/2 years that I was there, I gave birth to my second daughter and started to realize that I was worth more than I was getting paid and decided to take the last of my savings and get my own salon studio in Beverly Hills and instead of working hard for someone else’s business and I knew I could do it for myself and have a better income. That’s how The Hair Bar of Beverly Hills was born in 2017. I’ve worked hard to build The Hair Bar of Beverly Hills to where it is today and appreciate all of my clients who have been with me along the way and new clients who’s just joining my journey. I have now started a new sister company called The Hair Bar Collection where I’ve just launched new titanium ionic flat irons, heat resistant mats and parting combs.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road. When I first decided to go off on my own and open The Hair Bar of Beverly Hills, I didn’t have enough clients alone to pay the rent for the salon and also my other bills. So at the time, I also worked at a dentist office in Beverly Hills, which is a job I had since Cosmetology school, delivered for Postmates, also continued taking clients at home and don’t forget I was also a single mother of 2 now. As my clientele grew, I slowly left Postmates and recently left the dentist office due to Covid-19, which turned out to be a blessing because it made room for me to start and focus on The Hair Bar Collection.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Hair Bar Of Beverly Hills and The Hair Bar Collection. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Hair Bar of Beverly Hills is a modern boutique-style salon studio where every client is VIP. My services include blowouts, silk press, press & curl, women/girl haircuts, color and extensions. I specialize in styling and working with thick and curly textures, but I work with every texture in the world.

The Hair Bar Collection is a tool line (so far) that includes 1” and 1.25” Titanium Negative Ion Flat Irons that are infused with keratin micro-conditioners for safe use, protection against heat damage and provides silky, shiny and moisturized hair. I also provide a parting rat tail comb, parting all-purpose comb and heat resistant mats that is used for traveling with your hot tool and for use to protect your surface when using your hot tool.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best part about our city is the opportunity to make it in whatever you want to do if you really work hard and believe in yourself. Also the weather and diversity of people. The thing I like least about Los Angeles is the traffic lol, but other than that, I can’t see myself living anywhere else. I love Los Angeles and especially where I’m from, Inglewood.
