Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Washington
Hi Cheyenne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been an actor and a dancer my whole life, but I stopped performing before I went to college because I wanted to be realistic. Fast forward three years later, I was going great in school, but wasn’t feeling satisfied. I told my mom I wanted to go back to acting and I ended up going to a conservatory at Yale school of Drama. After that conservatory, I knew acting was what I wanted to do. So I finished my degree in 2020 in Connecticut (where I’m from) and I packed my bags and moved to LA at the height of the pandemic. And I haven’t looked back!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. While being out here, I had to navigate how to live somewhere by myself with no friends, family, etc. Shortly after I moved here, both of my grandparents passed away. It was rough the first couple years, and I cried a lot. But my mom was really my rock through it all and always encouraged me and believed in me. She always told me that the sacrifice would be worth it if I worked hard. She was absolutely correct!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an actor and a play wright. I have had most of my acting success on the indie film scene, but u believe indie film is the belly of the industry. It’s not nearly appreciated or fed enough yet it keeps the industry alive and kicking. My feature film debut is screening tomorrow, and my very close friend just won an award at the Micheaux film festival for her work. Things are looking up, and God is so good. My most proud work would be putting on my own play at the Hollywood fringe festival. It was the most fun and stressful experience ever, I would do it 10 times again!
What’s next?
I just want to make my footing in the industry and have a steady working career. I don’t really care to be super rich or super famous, but I would like to support myself and my future family off of solely my art. I want to wake up every day and create. And in 5-7 years I would love to settle down and have a family!
