Meet Cheyenne Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Perez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cheyenne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Every time I’d try to answer this as a sane person, a 1940’s Transatlantic Katherine Hepburn-esque voice says to me “Oh, baby, do you have a CVS receipt I can write it on?” So, we’re gonna start with that, I guess because I’ve been staring at the screen for 40 minutes and still have to procrastinate on writing something else. In elementary school, I looked like I Cory Feldman if he ate 200 pounds of ham, had a bowl-cut until I was 13, and was told I was the coolest girl in my school by my classmates if I paid them $5.

I don’t know how to say this without sounding super gross but I’ve been funny since elementary school. Ugh, that hurt… when I was younger, I would always think to myself: “Sure, I’m a scary child but at least, I can make someone laugh.” And I started doing improv at 13. It was towards the end of middle school when I wanted to join the high school improv team because: 1) the team was great 2) it was something that scared me and 3) the improv boys were so hot, they charred my cornea. Sorry, 1940’s Transatlantic Katherine-Hepburn joined us again for a second.

So, I did improv and loved it and started classes in Hollywood right out of high school. By starting pretty early, going through improv/sketch schools (the good and the bad), I began honing my writing and performing skills. I’ve always been into doing characters and I started really focusing on that, crafting weirdos who share some humanity. Jeff Sloniker (The Midnight Show @ UCB, sold 8 shows, works in development at Oath, comedy genius) really directed me and coached me a lot — he legit taught me what timing was. He also had me do a one-woman character show about my experience in middle school.

So, where am I today… I’ve booked 9 national commercials, wrote for/hosted for Gurl.com (over 660k subs), was on Disney Channel, regularly can be seen on the Snapchat network, and am about to have two solo character shows under my belt. And I’m 25 years-old. Not bad. You’re welcome, Mom. You’re welcome!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I enjoy writing and performing original characters. I love writing weirdos. Because I need so much attention, I write my characters thinking “hmmmm, what will give me the most attention?”

I’m heavily inspired by Amy Sedaris, Chris Lilley, Kristen Wiig, and Jillian Bell. Without watching them, I don’t think I’d have the confidence to do this in the first place. Oh, and do I put people on pedestals? Never!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think working hard and luck go pretty hand in hand. My friend’s father once said to me: “Remember, there will always be someone out there doing what you do but working way harder.” And that legit shot me in the butt to work non-stop. Hollywood isn’t easy! You gotta run against the wall 2,000 times until you get through Platform 9 3/4’s.
