Meet Cheyenne Floyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Floyd .

Cheyenne, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Cheyenne Floyd. I was raised in Pasadena, CA. I attended Hampton University earning a public relations degree. The year I graduated I started my clothing line – The RUU, featuring hats, clothing, and fitness wear.

Soon after I was found on Facebook to do my first MTV reality show “Are You The One” which is a fun dating show that I looked at as a business opportunity to wear The RUU on. After the first show with MTV my social media platform began to grow more. I was then asked to do The Challenge Rivals 3 which is an extreme show testing your strength, fears, and mind. After the Challenge I had the opportunity to do another MTV show, but denied the offer because I found out I was pregnant. Months later I had my beautiful daughter Ryder K. After the new born screening we learned she was VLCAD carrier. VLCAD is a rare genetic condition in which the body is unable to properly breakdown certain types of fats into energy.

At this moment my world was turned upside down and I found my passion, creating a non profit Rage Regardless Ry. I took all my anger and fears of my child having a rare metabolic condition and learned everything I could making it my mission to bring more awareness. Currently our family is featured on MTV’s Teen Mom OG, where Ryder’s dad, Cory, and I co-parent Ryder and are able to bring more awareness to RRR through the huge platform.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After three MTV shows and now being on a show with a huge following while displaying our families good and bad times it has been a bumpy road. All while raising our daughter with a rare condition and running two businesses The RUU and Rage Regardless Ry, my hands are full. Reality TV is an interesting career choice so I have to stay true to myself, respect my family, and learning how to capitalize on a huge platform. Some of the struggles include balancing social media feedback, positive and negative. After opening up on TV about Ryders condition the out pour from other families who have the same condition has been overwhelming. Many times the families reach out to relate or to simply share their stories, it becomes hard to read when their are families who have shared the loss of their own child.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I like to call myself a full time, Mom Entrepreneur. I am most known for my presence on MTV, philanthropy, and of course being Ryders mom. I don’t shy away from hard work or long hours and that has allowed me to be able to work from home. I handle everything that goes into the RUU and Rage Regardless Ry.

Rage Regardless Ry is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that takes initiative in supporting the lifestyle changes that come with raising children living with metabolic conditions. We host family & social events to bring awareness to the importance of the newborn screening test and VLCAD. At our first event and non profit launch, “Sweat for Vlcad” we held a day of fitness and silent auction. We raised over $10,ooo. This past holiday we did a giveaway to a family in need hand delivering clothing, toys, house hold items, and $1000 cash. I am so proud of RRR and what it means to my family and other families. Currently we are planning our next giveaway for National Rare Disease Day February 29th. Its an amazing feeling to have taken something that could have negative impact onto our lives and making it positive.

The RUU is a fun clothing store and is currently featuring hats that each have different phrases. “MOM GOALS, AUNITE GOALS, ECT,”

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be laying in bed with my family on Sundays and watching Lifetime Movie Marathon. We would get a towel and cover the bed eat family style and watch movies all day. Its something I can’t wait to do with my daughter.
