Meet Cheyanne Taylor of Thousand Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyanne Taylor

Hi Cheyanne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cheyanne Taylor is a graduate of AMDA College of the Performing Arts. She attended both the LA and NY campus. She survived the pandemic by tap dancing in her kitchen and taking voice lessons through zoom. Since graduating, Cheyanne has been booked and busy. Recently she just finished an original musical called “Lady in the Moon” (Whitefire Theatre), where she played the lead Allison. She also got to record a demo of her solo from the show, “Perfect Girl”. Other projects include: Johnny Dan “If It Don’t Twang” music video, where she got to choreograph and line dance, sang in the Mistletones at Legoland CA, and was a swing/ Mrs. Claus at Winterfest OC. She has also booked multiple verticals on Sereal+ and Dreameshort (Fleeing Husband, My 2 Fiances, Devil’s Triangle, and more). Last year she even booked her dog Cowboy. He booked print ads with Public Storage and Wagwell. When she’s not on set or in a theatre, Cheyanne loves: hot yoga classes, hiking, and traveling.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Even a worldwide pandemic, couldn’t stop Cheyanne from graduating. She rearranged the living room to become her dance floor, sang in her bedroom, and had her whole family help her with self tapes. It was a blessing in disguise, as it kept her motivated and showed her a glimpse into her future. Today, auditions are still half on tape and half in person. Another unforeseen circumstance occurred this past December. Three weeks before opening “Lady in the Moon”, Cheyanne got in a car accident on her way to rehearsal. Her car was totaled and she broke her wrist. Missing a week of rehearsal, she still came back off book and ready to perform. Having staged a whole show and then tweaking it during tech week was not ideal, but the whole cast was supportive. She was able to dance for the performances and once again proved, nothing could knock her down. One piece of advice someone told her post graduation was that “your job is auditioning, you’re a professional auditioner”. It’s hard at times to remember why we picked this career path, but getting to do your craft proves it’s worth it. She also used her off months to continue training. Going to dance class, trying new styles, and taking voice lessons or workshops gives one the motivation and perspective to keep doing the damn thing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Cheyanne is a singer, actor, and dancer. She grew up on an avocado orchard in Somis. She sings all types of styles from country to pop to musical theatre and jazz. She mostly takes Jazz, Tap, and Musical theatre dance, but last year she broke out of her comfort zone and took heels classes. Cheyanne loves the holidays and booked two Christmas contracts post graduation working at both Legoland CA and Winterfest OC. She was a swing and proved to herself she could absorb and learn quickly. She also booked two theatrical shows last year one play and one musical, “Something Wicked this Way Comes” at the MAIN and “Lady in the Moon” at the Whitefire Theatre. There’s something magical about new works. Cheyanne has sang with country bands at the Conejo Valley Days and Simi Valley Chili Cook-off, so “Lady in the Moon” brought out country pop Cheyanne. She got to add riffs and change melodies, a dream come true for a singer/ anyone originating a role. She also booked a country music video “If It Don’t Twang” with Johnny Dan where she got to line dance and choreograph. She also found the LA Cabaret in Torrance and was asked to sing at Anaheim Gardenwalk for a Halloween Cabaret this year. Also her hidden tip for booking is putting one goofy special skill on your resume. She puts a “broken doll eye” because she can twitch both eyes on command. Here’s to booking bigger venues and continuing to make connections in 2025!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Cheyanne grew up on an avocado and Mandarin orange orchard in Somis, CA. She spent weekends outside picking fruit, hiking the trails, and swimming in her pool. She is also an adrenaline junkie. She went skydiving with her sister, bungee jumped twice, and had a season pass to Six Flags. She plans to go paragliding in Rio. Cheyanne also was lucky her parents shared their love for traveling. She’s been to 4 continents, she’s only got: Antartica, South America, and Africa to go! When she’s with her friends, they might start the day at pilates, then head to a sweet brunch, and end the day with crafts and watching The Bachelor. She loves staying fit with hiking, pilates, dancing, and yoga. But don’t be fooled, she has a big sweet tooth and will hardly ever (not even) turn down a treat.  She also has gotten back into reading for leisure. Some of her favorite authors are Taylor Jenkins Reid and Paulo Coelho.
